That Seawind has either got my thumbs on the sticks or the DF was giving as good as she was getting from the larger boats. It'd be interesting to see the relative perfomance in lower wind. That looked as much as was practical with the A rig.

Ok swinging this to a more postive... and need some info on refinishing.. I've done a search and found a few threads on painting.. but what would some of you guys recomend for repainting the hull... method wise..
1) I would assume scuff / sand the existing finish - but does anyone have any idea if the paint on this beasty is Acrylic based or enamel? And then does the existing finish need to come off completely? 2) Prime after sanding or just shoot some new top coat (and washing down with) which begs the question with what.. I have easy access to prepsol (solver paints) would this nuke the ABS? 3) clear coat? worth it.. ? Think I'm gonna mess with this boat a fair bit. lol |

i think the performance of the boat is shown in the DF65 versus Seawind says it all :-)
the two hatches shown on an earlier boat are not on the produstion boats, but there will be an access hatch/patch near the mast/fin box to allow the batteries to be located nearer the centre of the boat. also the DRagon Force name on the sails will come off to allow registration numbers to be added hopefully we (myself/mike weston and John tushingham) will see the final product before there is any more grumblings !!!! (LOL) |

Could you take the dragon's off . . .
Mark.. I notice that the boat (that is often depicted in the photo's) has the main sheet method used on it you mention for the final boats, yet has the forward deck patches... Did Joysway change to the central eye for the main sheet. and then change back as the boat pictured seems to be a real mixture of features. With regards to the video i posted.. (linked too) I was very pleasantly surprised by the performance of the DF to the larger Seawinds just on appearance from the vid. |

I've just had some information forwarded on to me about the scratch mark (it is a joint line in the hull). Obviously this may vary from boat to boat as they polish this mark but can only polish the joint so far due to the thickness of the hull material.
As mentoined to me.. Mine appears worse than some, having said that though.. I am going to fair the area and have some fun and do a little tinkering. My little fella wants a boat (and when funds allow for another RG65 I'll pass this one on to him). And being a joint that is polished (sanded) they are probably not all going to be 100% dead perfect and some may vary a little, that I can understand. The final 'May boats' may be better in this area as they tweak the manufacturing or finishing process here, that is a wait and see type deal. I was sent some images of a hull (pre-painting) and the one in the images has what appears to be a better finished joint than mine by a long way so they may have improved what they are doing in this area for the final boats. Now next stop the local tackle shop.. for some Dyneema line (what weight(s) etc would be recomended for this size boat? - me being me - I'd prefer slight overkill on the strength or something that is definately going to do the job and not be marginal). I don't think this boat is going to be the fastest by the time it gets a repaint etc.. all little things that will add weight. |

I use 50-60 pound stuff on an IOM so this would be plenty.

Well the Boat arrived safely & well packed..
The scratch (if you can call it that) on my boat is clearly from the Joining of the Bow Fender/Bumper. More of a scuff mark.. Glued or Heat Treated in the Manufacturing process? Most likely glued & pressed fit. A few scuff marks/smears & not unexpected on a Black Hull.. Packing is what it is... 30 Minutes to Rig.. Only if you have an idea of where things go & how they operate... NO Instructions Care & sighting the right way to fit the Sticks to the 2.4ghz TX.. There is a right way & a wrong way.. Press away without looking & damage could be caused.. Align the Stub with the Rubber profile & they slip on easily.. Having used Graphite Rigs before I can see a lot of JT's influences in the overall rigging design.. I espeially like the Option of 5mm Stub or if preferred a direct 6mm mast Tube.. My first upgrade will be to Install an MM Deck Plate to accept my MM Masts & Gooseneck.. Lots of MM Inluences in the overall setup... Only fault I can see is "Lack of an Instruction Manual for the Novice.." Sub $150 & this is a good buy... No Question... Small Mods like changing rigging lines & maybe a few C Clips & O rings.. (Only for personal preference) Will finish putting it together over the next few days (busy atm).. Hopefully a test sail over the weekend.. |

Buyers would probably change that stuff even if they paid $300.
