oldie finally getting a life

Hmmm, now thinking about it that thread title could mean the boat or myself.

Anyway, I've had this sailboat kit for many many years but never did anything with it. At one time as a younger fellow I started to get into the RC boating hobby with a modified lowend fast electric, an MRP Fast Cat. I remember that the box or flier that came with it had a photo of my favorite full sized sailboat so I bought that model too.

Now, almost 30 years later, I opened the box to my new MRP Odyssey. Yeah, I know it won't be the best sailing boat out there but I still love the design and I'm a sucker for small details. With more snow comming in tonight, the build will start. I also just started looking for 1:25 versions of my wife and myself.

I believe this is the same model as the Kyosho Beneteau (spelling?) for 1/25 figures one place to try is Deans Marine in the uk.. I believe they have stuff (or at least 1/24).

Doing some looking around, it does look like the MRP is the same hull as the Kyosho but I think the keel is a little different. Mine has a winged keel which is very short. Then there is the Thunder Tiger model. I didn't get a close look at the keel but I assume this is the same as the MRP. My manual shows all Thunder Tiger radio equipment.

Still looking for a radio and high torque servo for the model. I broght the hull to work today to epoxy and bondo the keel and rudder tube. Yeah, I know I didn't need the bondo but it's an OCD thing. I'm working on a few ideas for custom paint. I'm thinking of a Margaritaville theme.

Got a few minutes today to work on the boat again. Sanded down the first coat of high build primer and now adding another. I thought the hull was pretty smooth until this step.

Was about to suggest the same. Keep the look. Maybe complete it in the parts there is only one color. Definitely a unique look that will get lots of talk.

Yeah, I did think it created an nice camo pattern. It's now a solid primer and will get it's pearl white one I get a chance to seal the deck.
