HD3D construction thread (Help me build my new plane!)

I just got home a few hours ago from RC Country in Sacramento CA, returning with a brand new HD3D. I have installed the motor (GWS EPS350C C gearbox, stock motor for now and a 11x4.7. Everything is looking great at this point. I am now starting to instal the wing, rudder, elevators, etc. I just need some tips on how to bevel stuff etc. Pics would be great. Thanks alot!

Download Tim Harts plans for the 3dx. in that plan set you will find the best beveling and hinging info anywhere.

I bevel my edges using a mach 3 razor cartridge. It works great and gives a nice clean bevel

bad news, I screwed up the stabilizer when I cut the bevel. I will have to wait for a new one to get here. . I have cut out the wingtip covers and the battery covers are on. I need the best way to bevel them with the least chance of screwing up.

What is the best way to join the elevator halves? I have the supplied wire but also have some .06 carbon rod which was suggested by Terry at RC Country to help stiffen up the wing. I bought about twice as much as I need.

I BUILT MY FIRST PLANE WITH CARBON ROD THIS WEEK, IT SEEMS TO WORK FINE, AS DID THE .032 WIRE JOINER.

Scotch tape

Low tech , but it has worked for me. Sticks to depron like....tape.....huh....oh well. That should work fine for the 350. If you upgrade your powerplant, you may try packing tape, inside and out of the hinge.

Not to hinge them, to join the two halves.

it isn't nessasary, I just thought that it was a good thing to do. You use a small diameter rod, mine is .06, but any small rod will do. You put 5 minute epoxy on the rod and set it in the inside leading edge. Hold the wing up vertical and let gravity pull the rod as far into the tip as it will go. wait 10 minutes or so and you are set.

Another Question. I have Probond PolyU glue and 5 Minute epoxy. Which would work best for putting the wing in? I want the strongest joint with the least fuss. Thanks.

The wing is one of the strongest parts on the plane, the carbon rod inside is really unnecessary, I cartwheeled one of my HD3D's yesterday due to a dumb thumb, wing was fine, cracked the body.

I have never damaged one of my planes in flight, because I keep the wing loading at a minimum. I have used razor and himax motors on 3 cells without any reinforcements (no issues!)

Its not the speed that kills, Its those unintensional landings,

Any suggestions on the glue for the wing? Also what would be a better combo once I go brushless

HImaxx 2015 4100 D gearing 12x6 3S lipoly

Himaxx 2015 5400 C gearing 11x4.7 (or Whatever is suggested) 2S lipoly

Thanks.
