CG Super Chipmunk build

I don't see a generic area to post nitro fuel builds so I will stick it here. Got myself a CG Chipmunk kit that has never been touched for only $40. To boot the seller had an unused O.S. 75ax for sale and it only cost me $50 more. Hard to pass them both up for only $90.

Thought I would post up pics as I go in case anyone else is ever wanting to read and see more about this kit.

heckova buy! WTG,

I luv that plane, I have built 2 of them, both with Os91fs, great combo! that 75ax is gonna be insane in this plane!

bout the only thing that needs ta be adressed, is the mounting blocks for the mains! believe me you will tear them out! on the last one I built, I made 1/8 lite ply doublers for the ribs that hold the LG blocks! then added 3/8 balsa angle stock 3 sides! ta say the least, don't be afraid ta reinforce the LG blocks!

this is a great flying plane, I will be watching your build! I have said it before, if I didn't have so many things going on, I would def. build another!

A couple of places to post...

Balsa Builders https://www.rcgroups.com/balsa-builders-807/
or...
Builders Workshop https://www.rcgroups.com/the-builders-workshop-131/

To me the Workshop is more about techniques, tips, etc than actual building. You look them both over and make your own decision.

Ken

PS. GREAT find

The Goldberg Chippie is a fine model, and flies very well.

Sweet deal

I had a Goldberg Chipmunk years ago. It was a fantastic flying airplane. I hope to find a deal on one at some point. I wish the dog gone kit wasn't $175 or I would be building right now. I have some other projects to keep me busy.

I love my CG Chipmunk. Mine is ridiculously heavy, though. It's got retracts, flaps, and OPS 60 Super w/tuned pipe and titanium connecting rod. It makes a lot of noise and seems to go pretty fast, but I've never clocked it.

I've always wanted to build one (I didn't build mine...though I did RE build it...lol) and do it stock...to get the true CG flight quality...mine is a rock at slow speeds. It does look awesome with the gear up, though. I will be following along with your thread!

Those pics were post rebuild...

Take your time. Enjoy what you are doing, and do it when you like.

This is relaxation, not a job.

A few years ago I bought a set of Super Chip plans from RCM, and had them enlarged to a WS of 84 inches. Some where about 20% scale, I believe. Plan is to someday build and fly it with a weedeater conversion motor. Got a bunch of those lying about, a couple already converted. I believe that should be enough power to haul it around.

I have the smaller Super Chipmunk version (Hyperion 10e size) and it is a beautiful plane to fly around. I can only imagine a larger version would be a pleasure to fly.

I just never get around to posting pics of the build because I'm so tired at the end on the day after working on it. Almost have the main wing all finished and the fuselage is about 40% finished.

Will post up some pics later today after I get home.
