About done. Just waiting for the servos to arrive..
Update: Just finished the build, less servos. Plugged in the weight of the servos and the plane weighs (less LiPo) 2299.15 grams, about what HK said it would (2300 grams). I am impressed! With a Turnigy 6S/3000ma. pack, the AUW is 6.22 lbs. Perfect. The motor I am using (Turnigy SK3-5045-500Kv) is out of my HK Katana, which, btw, came out at least 1.5 lbs. over advertized weight. As soon as the servos arrive, I'll give an initial flight report. |

Did the screw holes on the backmount cross of the 5045 fit the blind nut positions on the firewall or did you have to modify that?

They were a little off, so I slotted them about 1/16 inch and used lock nuts instead of blind nuts. If this motor works out, I'll convert to blind nuts.

Amps are 48.8 @ 4.02-4.03 volts/cell (resting). Watts were 1,083.36. 173w/lb. So far, so good. Seems to have a warp in the left horizontal stabilizer..a little wash-in. May try heat to un-warp it. |

Maiden flight
Well, the Airoso has maidened. Never have I flown a plane that flew so neutral after a build. Negligible roll or pitch coupling. C/G was close. Looks like no mixing will be necessary! The power plant is perfect, (Sportsman maneuvers are no sweat) with the motor temps. after 4+ min. flights 95* on a 85+ degree day! The 3000 ma. pack was warm, going down to 18%. I will upgrade to 4000 ma. packs, giving me a safe 5 to 5-1/2 min. full throttle flights. The landing gear is a weak point, however. Any bump at all and the gear will bend. I will seek out a carbon fiber substitute. One of my club fellow flyers took a video of the maiden. If it's available, I'll add it here.

Those servos are great. Fast, strong and center very well and tight. They were a little small for the factory cut-outs, I had to add balsa filler to achieve a solid mount. I have since installed some new Hitech HS225's. They are not digital, but they are just as fast.
