actually you can solder through hole boards in seconds with one of those. one was given to me and although i never used it myself i did see it in action once. he used bars of solder and there was always a layer of flux floating on top. it was far messier than hand soldering and needed more cleaning. he used isopropyl and had to do it while the boards were still hot.
