COX Viper Conversion


Starting to do a conversion on a Cox Sky Cruiser Viper "p51 Mustang"

Inspired by this thread and basically following qy8flyer's layout. I got mine for $15 at Big 5 and have basically gutted it and gone to work.

Component Layout


Well here's a start...

2 Bluebird BMS-306 servos
Berg Micro Stamp w/ Lightenna
GWS ICS-100 5Amp ESC
GWS IPS DD w/ 3x3 prop
Etech 250 2cell Lipoly

will use Dubro EZ connects on linkages.

Here'e half the fuse (sort of like an Xray)with the wing in place. I made a small battery hatch forward of the wing like qy8flyer did.

I'm also going to do the one aileron half/elevator method that he did.

is that a cooling flenge around the motor?
if so I think you can remove it cause it doesent have a good airflow to be eficiant enyway, it is just extra weight

otherwise it looks nice!

Philip,

That's actually a heat sink. It helps give the motor a little extra support. The other half of the fuse has generous clearance and the battery access hatch will be left uncovered for addittional cooling.


Finished it up late last night and was too tired to take photos.

Here's the elevator linkage...

You may not like the 250ma 2s set up,Matt D said he has tryed the same set up as you have there and then switched to 340ma 2s.The speed and power greatly overcame the extra weight and it would fly much longer.You'll find that the 250ma li/pos will only give about 180ma in this set up where as the 340ma batts will dump all 340ma for you giving a much longer flight even if you fly at full throttle with the 340s compaired to being nice to the 250s.Matt

Yeah I don't even bother taking the 250s with me anymore. The only other lipoly I have is the 340 and it only gives me about 10 minutes so I wish I had more flying time. To me it isn't even worth it. I need to get another e-tec 700. That was the best of everything I think. Speed and duration although heavier than the 250s much better amp dump for that motor. It would really haul the Acro-Bipe around better.
