Question

Is it possible to build a sub with out a pump and ballast tanks??

I was wondering if it would be possible to build a sub with slightly positive buoyancy, so it floats r e a l l y s l o w l y too the surface if it isn't moving, and have the diving planes controll the depth, like in a blimp or plane?

Dumas AKULA and USS BLUEFISH are two models designed as dynamic diving subs. The Graupner SHARK is another dynamic diver.

The short answer is yes. Here is my Gato that is a dynamic diving sub. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1675545
It can be any sub you want, depends on the dive system you put in, if you do not want to go with one of the fine kits already listed.

I would like to keep it simple and cheap, would it work if I used a water bottle for the hull? Or are there any cheap sub kits out there? How easy would it be to convert a small plastic model kit, like 20"-25" long?

That is a dream for all of us, cheap and simple. I have seen WTCs (Water Tight Containers) made with simple devices and common materials. My Aluminaut is using less-expensive parts (ESC-Electronic Speed Controller for ~$7 US), the most expensive part is the receiver (~$40 US), but there are receivers out there for about ~$20 US - You get sometimes what you pay for.

Browse some of the works in progress at this site and others. You will see it can be done.

My favorite sub to run is my Delphin which is a dynamic diver.
It's not usually done for a scale boat but there is no law against it.
Simple easy and safe to run, unless you get snagged. Dave.
