Glue your hatch on from here, don't screw it on. No modifying the muffler. No need to either, it works perfectly fine as is, same with head height.

I took the motor apart to replace the bearing. The bearing that's in there has a plastic retainer on the prop side of the rear bearing. I left it in. I did not see a gasket or shim when I took the head off. I guess that's good or they are improving their design. Thanks Kbo. The hatch seems kinda dinky. I may replace it with ply as stated being done before and epoxy it down.

TTPro 40 Muffler. I went 4.5 yrs without having a problem with the mufflers. Last year I had one come apart during a race. I now take out the red rubber gasket and put it together with JB Weld and replace the threaded rod with a piece of 6/32 all thread and use two nuts on each end jammed and use red locktite.

Very cool. Will JB weld mine tonight. CARB. On the Idle adjustment screw. Once loctite is on. Do I screw it in all the way and THEN back it out 2 turns or just screw it in 2 turns ?

screw it in just far enough to stay in - not any further than you have to.

Landings will end up being dead stick, the engine will die when you shut the carb barrel.

Doesn't everyone land dead stick??

I guess landings don't always end up being deadstick, but deadsticks almost always end up being landings of some sort...

Good point!! I guess I have been doing this long enough that if I am not DS landing it just doesn't feel normal. Almost like I am cheating having the motor running to help me out.

You mean some guys put in more than enough fuel to run 11 laps?

Yeah. I'm pretty excited about the big race. I think I'll be a little overwhelmed. And a bit nervous. It's so soon. But I ll have fun

What a sweet sounding motor. Broke in 5 tanks. With a APC 8x5. Last tank moved the needle to 16,000 rpm. Pinch went to 17,200-17,600. Now going to put it on the plane with the APC 9x6. Should I leave the needle alone ? Or give it a couple clicks lean ?

Back the needle out 1 full turn before starting the motor with the 9X6 and be ready to open it more. You want to be definitely rich when you start it and then slowly lean it out and pinch till you get it 5-600 rpm below peak. A good broken in motor is usually set to 3-500 rpm below peak before launching.

Will do. I ordered some plastic medical clamps (Hemostats) so I can pinch my fuel line.
