How much thrust / power do you need per pound?

Ok I've been away from EDF for 2 years now. I showed up at a rc swap meet and I found this huge F-106 Dart just calling my name. The sellers new nothing off it but they new it was nitro ducted. It looks like it may be a Centry Jet but at $50 with retracts I thought it would be great to have 1 big EDF in my fleet as my 70mm are small to me

So all I know is It has ducts and a cheater hole

The wings are foam core and are 42in wide and the fuse is fiberglass

Length is about 71in long

And empty with gas tanks and retracts it about 7 pounds

I do fly off grass and like to go fast

So I know there was dif size nitro motor set ups for these birds so how do you know how big of a electric set up you need? Or do you alway just try to make it a 12s set up as its the easiest lipo wise (I already have 6 5000 40c lipos)

I know I can't afford a BMV set up but I have the above lipos and a 120amp HV12s ESC laying around

I need you help guys. Thanks

Do it Right, the first time!

Lots of great fans out there to be had, that will do the job. But first thing I would check out would be inlet size ( those probably can't be changed in any easy way) and outlet dia. Once you find the sq in on inlet, you can start looking for the right match in a fan by seeing what the FSA ( Fan Sweep Area) of that given unit is. There are some variables, but 100% is most used
Rule of thumb for exhaust outlet is 85%.FSA That may change with fan and model, and performance required.

Thia isn't a pitch for Esprit Models, but on the fans listed, most give FSA. A good place to start to find fan size(dia) , plus other info that may help out.

Check here:

Consider the when this was made, equipment has come a long way. Numbers are still relivant today.

Happy hunting.

Sounds like it was setup for a Dynamax fan so XPS E-Dynamax should be a good fit.

So could I go with a lighter set up like this?

Haeyo 4.5" shroud, Turbax cut down rotor to fit shroud, Turnigy 4030-880 motor and the ESC is a Turnigy 120a HV..... On 10 or 12s ?

I have the XPS Pro fan that I'm planning on putting in my YA F-18. It's slightly shorter but slightly wider. Apparently slightly heavier but unsure. Anyway, I've been criticized that the XPS fan at just over 3 lbs is too heavy.

EDIT: Oh yeah they're all out of stock anyway.
