Hey Tim,
Any update on the estimated release date for this plane? I understand the need for proper testing to get it right, so take your time, but I'm sorting out my plans for airframe purchases. I love my little Rifle but I consider this new 1M a "must have".
Cheers,
Straight Up

Hi Straight Up.

We're waiting to receive and evaluate final samples made from production tooling (the unit shown in the pre release is not from production tooling). I expect that to go without a hitch, then we okay production and wait for the first run to be made and shipped. So I'm guessing we're still probably two months out.

You can monitor the Tower Hobbies web site and when you see the Rifle 1M appear there, it means availibility should be about a month (or less) away.

Sometimes, for good reason, the company is hesitant to release inside information other than expected delivery dates, but I'll try to update you on progress if/when possible.

But I'm the first customer! We have one on back-order and it's mine and already paid for!

Believe me, I'm anxiously awaiting myself!

Tim

Well, the part number (GPMA1806) is on the front page of the flyer in this link:

http://downloads.hobbico.com/factshe...fact-sheet.pdf

But it hasn't been officially announced internally because it's not even up on the Tower Hobbies page or been announced to hobby dealers through the normal channels, but the part number is active, so I would think you would still be able to back-order.

I dunno, give your hobby dealer or Tower Hobbies a call and see what happens?

Looks like an awfully long nose compared to other planes in this class. Any specific reason behind that?

Yup! 19.7:1 quad-planetary gear box. Its going to spin an 8"x38" prop from a 4700kv heli outrunner on 6s. Should easily hit 200mph on only 60 amps!

Makes it ultra-simple to fit the ESC, motor, battery - and those of various sizes. This can be tedious on other models with a smaller/shorter nose. Also works out C.G.-wise.

Not all...I was just adding to what you said. I like your idea and hope to see someone try it and would definitely be interested in the result.

Good idea.

Ah yea, flown the heck out of it!

Quickly, flies the same as the original Rifle - not much to say about it - it just goes where you point it. Wanna give it a good toss on launch and she lands the same (but spoilerons do help).

Flown it from 2S with 5.25 x 6.25 at around 300W up to 4S on Neu 1112/2D with 4.5 x 4.1 around 1200W. (But with that it's heavy and for experts only - 3S with 4.5 x 5.1 is the sweet spot).

What motor you going with?

Gonna be around June before these things hit the streets. I'll provide updates when available.
