Needing direction with CL fun scale

My son and I attended a few days of CL at the Nats last summer. We are mainly involved with FF and RC. We have both flown some control line and my son would like to try profile scale (1/2a fun scale?). Unfortunately we did not get to see any of those classes being flown and I have had little luck finding any more info.
I did find some info in the AMA contest rules but nothing about 1/2a. I believe the 1/2a event was new to the Nats this year.
Any comments to steer us in the right direction would be appreciated.

I saw some scale flying at a contest at Whittier Narrows in 2004 and it certainly looked like a lot of fun. At the 1999 CL contest at Mile Square, here in S Ca, I saw a few huge scale that looked like they'd be even more fun.

This thread will have some ideas for you, however it is for multi-engine 1/2A scale

You might also check out the AMA Scale rules, page SC-8 for event 521 CL Profile Scale and that will reference back to SC-3 for Event 509 CL Sport Scale.

Also check out here

check the Brodak site we flew 1/2A scale last year and it is on the schedule this year. There is also some other scale info on the same page.

also look at fun scale, a great starting point and you can use a RC arf , converted to cl of course. The other scale events require you build the plane

flyelectcl gave you good advice. The rules on the Brodak site are the same rules used for the 1/2 A fun scale at the 2012 NATS and probably again this year.

The CL Scale is held the first weekend of the NATS. The Brodak Fly-In is the biggest CL contest next to the NATS and is a ball to attend or compete at.

tigreflyer, Here is a picture of my CL Sport Scale model I will be flying at both Brodak and the NATS.

We have beem looking at the Brodak and Black Hawk web sites. Most of the planes my son likes have a solid flat plate wing. Should we stay away form these and opt for a built -up wing? We have a Wizard that is fun to fly but turns into a rock when the engine quits. Bad news if we were flying on blacktop!

There is a build thread on this site about my 1914 Jeannin Stahltaube on the scale fuel planes forum.

Here are two videos of my Taube flying. The first was taken of the first test flight. The plane landed fine but the photographer fell down!

The second video is over 12 minutes and it all was shot at the Brodak Fly-In. On the 4th or 5th lap flying I do a Wing Wave. The low speed needle was a 1/2 turn too rich..
