Not a bad first attempt! It's eye-opening to make your own. You really start to see just how much work goes into these.

It is a ridicules amount of time and work. It's more for me as I have had to make things like a Hotwire bow etc. it will be much easier to make a second set as most of the stuff needed has been sorted.

Additionally I have learnt so much about technique in making this first set of tail feathers and wings. From basic prep to cutting cloth and wetting out. If you look at the wings you will see they were not wet out properly so I've ended up with areas with no epoxy.

Typically dlams are caused by not getting even distribution if vacuum.

I'm very happy with my disser cloth. I'm not happy with my wings.

I tried to use 200g twill weave carbon on a 90/0 cut. This was very difficult to work with and I feel was a mistake.

I think I may have had better results with a bias cut. I'm not sure but it seems to be a more manageable orientation with less break away of strands.

New vert stab layup. Much happier. Disser glass, Kevlar leading edge, carbon spar, carbon cap over core join and Kevlar live hinge.

Vert stab is out the bag and I'm very happy. It's worked better than I'd hoped. Its rigid and the finish is ok. It's 9g with out triming so the full tail set will be about 16g. That's ok for a first attempt.

16g is a respectable first try. Looks like it oughta be dang stiff, too!

P.S.: Do you know you can post multiple pics in the same post?
