How to wire brushless esc to motor?

Okay, this may be a dumb question. I just got my first brushless setup. A nippy outrunner with a Jeti 8-3 ESC. There are no wiring
diagrams with either one. Is there a specific way the 3 leads need to be connected to the motor? All the specs say is reversing any two leads will reverse motor direction.

You can play with the "+ or -" ("red and black")
but the one in the middle (motor) should connect to the middle one on the ESC

That is not correct. It makes no difference in which order the wires are connected to the ESC. There is no red/black/+/- on the nippy motors, just three connection pads (the wires in the attached picture are from the ESC, not supplied with the motor - and as you can see, I just happen to have mine connected white/red/black) As Gregg said, if it runs the wrong way, just switch any two.
