The canon and 16-35mm lens comes in at just under 1.5kg. From the tests we have done so far with the 1.5kg test weight the stabilisation is not a problem, but we are not that happy with the torque.
We have sourced another brushed motor which we hope will give us what we want. With a couple of changes to the boards and some spare time we hope to have some results soon.

If tests with the Nikon and 18-105 (1.1kg) go well, I suppose we could add another 400grams to the gimbal and try it out.

Stay tuned.

as weight is always aconcern, any chance of incorporating some 2-3 mm CF plates on top and bottom of the camera cage? Would add even more sexiness and maybe shave a few grams. Every little bit helps. Looking forward to this soon.

Paul,

Your DD gimbal looks fantastic! To have a moderately priced DSLR gimbal, capable of producing smooth,
vibration, jello free video with the bonus of simple field adjustments will be a huge accomplishment! The
FC/servo controlled gimbals, with or without belt drives are just not producing a stabilized video and are a
pain to setup all the parameters.

I have an Octo ready and waiting for your gimbal so do you think it will be ready for purchase by the
start of this Spring?

Thank you, but it's so big (@50"+ in dia.) that when I flew it at night in my back yard
with all the blinking lights on, there were numerous UFO sighting reports for the next
few days!!! LOL...LOL!! What fun!:

Hi red. We have plenty of lightening to do. We have decided to do that when we have the gimbal working Perfectly in stabilisation.

Hi Jeff. Thanks for the comments.
We have another week at work and then we are free to start making some swarf and start testing.
I can honestly say that this gimbal will not be ready to purchase at the start of spring. However, we are hoping by the beginning of spring we will be able to give a definite answer on whether this gimbal will go to market or go to the bin.

Cheers
Paul

I am about to buy a Vulcan and this gimbal would seem to be a good reason to pull the trigger.

Hi Jc. You don't need this gimbal to make it a good reason to pull the trigger. The Vulcan is a great frame.

Quick update on the gimbal. Not a lot to say really, our day jobs are still getting in the way.
My mate has tried a new motor and the results are good giving us more torque.
I will try and get some video up this week.

Cheers Ferdinand.

The new style end caps for the board boxes makes a much nicer look.

Before.

After.

I was curious also, looks like ya need at least an octo to lift this for any length of time. Pretty, but it looks heavy..

Really nice, I want to build something like this myself but with 4 axis, what kind of gyros and motors are you using (or is that giving the game away) ?
