TF P-47 ARF engine question

I have a chance to buy from a fellow club member a used Saito 120 (the single cyl one) for $145.00.
My question is, do you think it will fit in, and work well, with a Top Flite P-47 ARF?
Was originally think Saito 100, but the $145.00 sounds better than over $300.00!
Assuming of course the used one runs ok.
Thanks for any input

I have a Saito 125 in my TF P-47 .60 size. It flies well and i have power for all the usual warbird manuvers. A Saito 100 would be marginal imo ( I have one in a TF P-51 .60 which is spot on regarding power). The P-47 is not as sleek as the P-51 and needs the extra power. I don't know how the 120 compares to the 125 but they can't be that different.

Thanks E&E for the info.
I went ahead and picked it up. The price made it worth the gamble,as I could use it in other projects.

TF P-47 ARF engine question

I am also building a TF P-47 and plan to glass it, so it will be a bit heavy. It is getting a 20cc gas engine, do to the high cost of nitro, and the extra weight. The engine weight is only a bit more do to the ignition and kill system. but not putting in an onboard glow driver and battery should even out in the end.

Sounds like a 1.20 or 1.25 should have lots of power and still allow for a in the cowl muffler. Keep us posted as to how it all works out.

Here are some pictures of my installation of the Saito 125. I have a 90' bend (sorry dont know where it is from) the rest is stock. Dry weight of plane is around 5,5 kg.

I believe the exhaust adapter is from RC Specialties.

As for engine choice, I believe the 120 would be a bit large and heavy for a 60 size warbird. I fly several and a TF Harvard, (AT-6 Texan) at close to 11.5 lbs takes off and flies with the OS 90 Surpass at half throttle. Rare Bear is considerably heavier, but due to the fact the aircraft is a scale racer I stuffed the Saito 125a under the hood. Again, anything over half throttle can make them fly far too fast for scale realism.

Just picked up a pair of Royal/Marutaka 60-80 class warbirds, (Zero and FW-190) and do not believe anything larger than a Saito 100 will be required, even after I mod them up for flaps, retracts, etc.

As for the Saito 120, this is built upon the 150 case and is larger and heavier than the 125a.

Thanks for the replies,
I may end up going with a smaller engine. I can use the 125 in something else.
I do want it to fit totally under the cowl with no cutouts etc.
Although the way E&E has it, it's pretty unobtrusive.

I think that 125 looks perfect in there! Heck throw a saito 140 in it or even better a YS-140 MUAHAHAHA

No matter what it will fly awesome!

My TF ARF P-47 has Wingspan electric retracts, which work great, flaps and I use an OS 110a 4 stroke and it's plenty of power for me....
