Description: A forum for alternative Open Source Technology for Digital Command, Control and Communications (C3) Systems for Digitally Controlled Watercraft including real-time Telemetry and Video returns and logging.

Justification: To facilitate communications and technology transfer within the model boating community, particularly between members of R/C Groups, regarding alternative open source methods of controlling, automating and animating our watercraft as well as encouraging a "Stanford Homebrew' style cybernetics culture based around open source and open source ideals.

Currently the information on automating or making our boats more autonomous or using the expanding number of alternative control systems and technologies such as the Raspberry PI (Rπ) and the Arduino system families, is spread piecemeal throughout the web and hardcopy worlds and very little, if any, is directed at model boaters. The aviation community has seen the urgent necessity of creating separate technology forums for experimentation, design, construction and dissemination of these devices and techniques. It is obvious that boaters must follow suit.

If the cybernetic Boating community is to begin designing and developing items and instrumentalities, we need a place to commune and share. Not just as lone modelers and engineers who individually peek, poke and peruse in the aircraft forums, the blogs over at Make Magazine's site or robotics forums which may, but more often do not, address the issues we need to solve, especially as boating is the disregarded rump of the RC community to many. Outside of a very few dedicated vendors and artisanal manufacturers specific to boating, no one develops anything specifically for us any longer. We must adapt, nay, hack, aircraft, robotics or car technologies for aquatic environments and our purposes.

We desperately need a place of our own to do so, to exchange data, experiences gained in our successes as well as failures, our designs and other works as well as keeping, sharing and disseminating build logs of our equipment and experiments.

Using the digital command-and-control has been in use in model railroading for about 15 years I would love to see applications used in R/C model Boats and I'm all for it, count me in!!

Ok I'm in too. Sounds like a great idea that is overdue for consideration. You techy guys don't need to talk slow but you do need to explain the terminology that you use. I already don't understand the initial conversation here. And Craig you should be writing double speak for the government. Your good with the words son and I'm wondering if we have to pass this thing so we can find out what's in it. Ha! Pete

Put me on the list.
I'm always open for new information and ways of doing things.
I can't work my two year old phone yet but who knows maybe it will inform me how to control my boats with my phone.
