A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…I was building a 1940 Chris-Craft Barrel Back and discovered once the stuffing tube was part of the hull, the strut I purchased from M.A.C.K. no longer lined up. My oversight. Using that strut as a prototype, I fabricated my own. It is a subtle difference, but now the shaft lines up to the stuffing tube, thru the strut.

Agreed, very nice fab. Did you document how you built the strut? I would love to see how this was built. I am sure Tim would like to know as well.

Thanks
I did that a century ago, not documented. I basically made a copy of M.A.C.K.'s solid design, with the offset I needed. Brass sheet, tube, a couple of bearings, and solder. Made the footing, screwed that to the hull, next came the vertical riser, then the bearing tube. I used the prop shaft stuffed in the stuffing tube to get it all lined up.

lower struts

The next size down MACK struts have arrived ( THANKS Gravman ! )...

Please see pics, the new clearance from prop tip to hull at TDC is @ 1/16, a bit Too close but I can find a way to increase that I am sure ...

The first strut ( original ) is 1/2 inch clearance, puts the prop in harm's way ...

Better, Yes ?
