Tim, after IKE I had the garage lighting upgraded and got some Gladiator stuff for storage and organization. I made the workbench out of a solid core door and some metal legs from MacMaster Car. Harry the planking is really pretty simple. I used the same thing on the quarter scale boat I made years ago. I am thinking about trying to fit all the mahogany planks like they do on the full size boats. Not sure about that part yet...

Planking

It has taken a while but I finished all of the subplanking in preparation for the mahogany. Several years ago my wife gave me a 3D sander from Sears. The tool was made in Germany, not China which is weird I know. Anyway, I never used it and I was thinking if I only had something that would sand the curves in this hull, both convex and concave. Then the light came on and I thought about that sander. After a brief search I managed to locate it still new in box. When I opened the box I found that it only came with 3 disks already loaded. No problem, I'll just check with Sears and get some replacements, right? Wrong! It looks like they no longer offer this sander or replacement disks. An online search showed that MicroMark had replacement disks so I ordered some from them. They came in today and they were in Sears packaging with a MicroMark sticker on top.

Thats a cool looking sander, Never seen anything like it ( except for electric shavers with three floating heads ) ...

Do the heads "float" at all, or are they rigid ?

The model I am doing is the first I have done with concave surfaces and its a real challenge, you may have a helpful device there ...

Tim, yes they do float just like the shavers. It will do the job pretty quickly. It does not spin real fast but it does not need to. The speed is adjustable from slow to not so slow.
