yep, I fully expect all the support gear I orderd to get in well before the actual device itself, and plan on "fussing around" test stuff for it the lead time. I might make up a bunch of OS test cards to use the thing for various functions around the house...
An XBMC front loader OS for media stuf on the big TV, already have a full function media PC, so, once again fussing about.. MAME front end loading GUI for fussing about with old arcade ROMS. Chrome OS for doing web stuff in general... plan on making my first web post from it here to show feasability. etc etc etc. I have high hopes for the new forum if it comes about, for all facets of RC, and boating specific I/O board functionality and experimintation. mostly because a lot of folks who are into RC boats are into scale, and scale functionaly, kinda like the Model train folks who are a lot about scale operations, who are readily into adoption of electronics, and automatons in general. the technology is there and getting smaller, light weight, and more full functioned all the time. it aint quite the flying car future, but we are living in it.. might as well take advantage of it. |

Ding! First hexadec cohort is filled in less than a single day - we iz on our way!
Our votes view ratio probably ain't that good though, 12.125% (194 visits, 16 votes) but then I have been checking the thread an awful lot..... and it isn't very visible to boat people unless you browbeat them into..., I mean email them about signing up, |

now that would be an interesting programming challenge! Wind direction, wind speed, boat speed, intended course, best course (speed of advance/speed through the water), all would have to be calculated and used to make way.

Little io board
Here is the IO board I got off e-bay. Everything looks great and was well packaged. The only thing I didn't like was there is no assembly instructions or picture to follow. I found a pic of this IO board that I can follow to assemble it but it would have been nice to have

Ok got the board assembled. It was pretty easy all and all I found a good image of the board to follow so the instructions were not really needed. If the guy selling it had at least provided the link To the better pic then all would have been good. Now I just need to learn how to program this thing.
Anyone know a class for arduino programming and or python commands for IO interfaces? Massey |

The thing is guys & gals, in my humble opinion it's definitely NOT off topic at all. These days, it's about as ON topic as we can get for model boats.
The flyboys have been controlling their planes forever, so why can't we control our boats the same way, if not even better? Cheers, Barry |

Sticky - Boat Automation?
Craig,
Just had a thought; regardless of the outcome of this, how about a Sticky on the subject so all the hardware, OS & software contributions are not lost? Cheers, Barry |

I think this will work. 36 'sigs' on a petition for a new forum in under 32 hours? That's almost hitting lightspeed I think.
But, yes, I do see the point and I'll work with the others to preserve what's surfaced so far. No worries on that score. See if you can shake some more signatures out of folks up in your neck of the woods, OK? Best Craig |
