Newport MiG Patrol Airshow - Next Sunday

We'll have a completely informal jet get-together next Sunday (12/28) at Fairview Park (HSS site, end of Canyon drive, Costa Mesa) after 12 pm. The flighline should include all five members of the by now world-renowned Newport MiG Patrol ...

We will have three bungees setup for simultaneous launching of the MiGs, so bring you latest hangar queen for a quick refreshing launch off that ramp ...

Map (see also http://www.1hss.org/ ). The field is ELECTRIC and GLIDER only, no gas planes anywhere.

PERFECT!

I'm planning to get the Wattage MIG (with a K&A MIG to follow) with a MEGA 16/15/2 on 8 cells and would LOVE to check out some of these before I put mine together.

Facilities include restrooms, dirt runway and expert handlaunches at a specially discounted rate of $4.95 each.

There might be a raffle as well, prizes might include my almost NIB T-33, a 5-bladed slightly used HW-620 fan and other goodies ...

Herb,

How long is the dirt runway? My ME takes about 150 ft to rotate as does the L-39.

I'd say at least twice as long. Lots of stuff rog's at the field from gws a-10's all the way up to H9 P-51's. My Spitfire took off with scale retracts no problem. Unless the wheels are really tiny or the LG real flimsy it should be fine ...

Wow, a great chance to see these jets in person. ROG of Steve's F-104 and the 1011 will be awsome. However, $4.95 for an expert hand launch is a great deal!

To tell you the truth I'm a little worried about ROG on such a short and ruff runway.

I'd hate to hurt either of the planes when I normally take off from a 650 ft paved runway.

I'm a bit chicken.

How many pounds is this thing? I'll bring part of my fleet, Doug will have his, Gregg his MiG & Corsair, XPham his T-33 finally for the maiden, and Joe Elston I understand will bring his new JePe F-16 for the maiden.

If you have enough power our smooth field should be no problem, here are a few examples:

gws a-10 rog

another gws a-10 rog

Learjet rog

46 oz. Gear are fine on the tarmack. Many flights now. But they may get beat a bit there, maybe not.

L-39 is the same weight, gear are a little stronger on that one. Take roll shorter.

Boy I wish I could take off as soon as the lear but I need more runway. Never thought of this before I took off the hooks.

Thanks Herb,

Steve

Seems like tomorrow Sunday the wind will be coming the wrong way for zagis (SE to SW)

Phil I'll bring a T-33 canopy for you, so we'll see yours fly .
