The CNC Journey

New years resolution was to get my cnc setup comfortable enough for me to generate small to medium projects without feeling lost. Seeing as there are enough details to make my head swim I thought I would use my page to keep track of what I have found and created.

Part 1 - Listing the equipment

1. The milling machine I choose was the G8689 also know as the X2 mini mill. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Mini...-Machine/G8689

2. Little machine shop sells a belt drive conversion kit that reduces the noise of the X2 and increases reliability over the stock plastic gear drive. http://littlemachineshop.com/products/2560

3. I purchased the CNC Fusion X2 kit 2 which allowed for a simple bolt on of the stepper motors as well as ballscrews to decrease backlash. http://www.cncfusion.com/minimill1.html

4. I purchased the Probotix 3 axis monster mill kit. Choosing to upgrade the power supply to 40VDC Linear incase I wish to move to higher end stepper or a 4th axis. Also updated the breakout board to a PBX-RF...reason was something to do with protecting the PC..more on this when I remember. http://probotix.com/index.php?view=p...product_id=118

The conversion process from the stock mill to the cnc was quite fun. Got really dirt, learned all the inner workings on the machine...fun.
