Is it ABC or ringed?

If ABC, it doesn't really need much running in. Just set it slightly rich and fly it. Important not to run it too cool (rich) as the ABC setup is intentionally very tight at low temps and will wear rapidly if you run it that way for any length of time, resulting in poor compression when hot. If you really want to ground run, short runs slightly rich, giving time to cool down inbetween, are OK.

If ringed, I'd probably run a tank or two through on the ground at a fairly rich setting, then fly it (still set on the rich side for at least two or three flights). If you have loads of surplus power just fly it very rich right from the start.

Hook it up to one D cell and run it in under water.

Sorry, just couldn't resist.
