Help!
My plane went for a swim today! Need some quick advice!
I was flying my wing around the ocean today when I was hit on landing. I lost all control and the plane locked in a shallow turn with low throttle. She nosed into the ocean. The nose dunked under and popped right back up. Once I swam out and retrieved the plane from winter-temp salt water, I disconnected all of the batteries, cut away any heatshrink that kept me from getting to boards, blew out every bit of water I could, and then heated every component up with the truck's heater. Now I need to figure out how to prevent and take off any corrosion to see what I can recover. Any advice?
...and winter water in Maine is COOOOOOOOOOOLD!!! Thank you, Kody |

I did ended into salty ocean before, pull the lipo immediately then back home open all the electronics housing, scrub all the all the internal electronics board with tooth brush inside bucket of clean tap water to remove layer of corrosive salt and let it dry for 3 days. After that i manage to flew like as if it was new. But for for CCD/CMOS camera dont scrub the glass surface sensor chip on board just use high pressure spray but you can scrub manually on back part.

I dunked my full fpv skysurfer last year around january up near san francisco. I went to far and battery was completely depleted to the point where i lost control of the plane. It went in according to my gps about 850 feet away off shore. I saw the plane go in and i removed my clothes and swam after it.
Mind you this was close to 4pm and the sun was coming down quickly. Its funny how something that seems so close to land is actually really far away lnce your in freezing water. I retrieved it and swam back. It was nearly submerged as the waves were throwing it around. I removed all the electronics and gave them a bath in distilled water and alcohol. Used my compressor to blow off all the water. I left it alone for about 2 weeks. My dragonosd was shot, gps and current sensor were ok. My battery was was super dead. Servos, esc and brushless motor were ok. My pz0420 camera also survived. Looking back i risked my life going adter this plane. I couldve got swept out to sea by a riptide or under water current. I wont be doing that again lol. |

No. Why? I was flying 72MHz. I've never had a problem with it before. I was hit twice before I was able to get the plane down. Since I've never flown in that area before, I'm thinking that there might be a lot of noise that I didn't know about. The strange part is that I had control over 1000 feet away, but lost all control when the wing was just 20 feet from my TX antenna. Quote:

Many many years ago I worked in a fiberglass shop. Certain plastics don't like either of those chemicals. You've been warned. Good luck with the equipment! |

I was just joking. I would never put acetone or MEK on this equipment! That's for the nastier side of my balsa stuff. Quote:
______________________________________ Here's the video. The quality is awful. It was merely a camera set up in front of the monitor. My next upgrade is a DVR. My advice is to watch it in high quality. It's a short video. Sorry about the expletive. It slipped. I only swear in some very bad situations!

Stuck a float plane in. Distilled water, alcohol , and 1 week later, everything but the esc and battery survived.
