RealFlight and Joe Wurts Third Vector

I modified RealFlight's thermal park to simulate Joe Wurts Third Vector tutorials.

"Thermal Park Third Vector" is for DLG practice.

I suggest using the wonderful work by Fly_Electric who modeled Dr. Drela's SuperGee II.

I recommend watching the video: "Joe Wurts on Soaring" that shows us how to apply his "Third Vector" drawing. There are links to both of these on the "Tips" page of my website www.TailwindGliders.com

Enjoy!

Guess I'm going to have to upgrade to 6.5 now.

For those who don't own RealFlight perhaps this will entice you. By the way I don't work for RealFlight, I just enjoy flying it!

Sweet. I have RealFlight 3.5, but didn't know until just recently that I could buy the 6.5 upgrade and install it over 3.5 (the 6.5 documents don't say 6.5-over-3.5 is a valid upgrade path).

RealFlight 3.5 was *awesome* for training myself to fly helicopters, but it really stinks for gliders. From all I've read, 6 is much improved wrt gliders.

This reminds me that JW not only uses his "analytical brain" (the part that figures out 2+2=?) to find thermals by via the third vector and the in the latest AMA mag there is a story in which he says that he uses his "lizard" brain to find thermals. (The lizard brain is the more instinctive/intuitive part of our thinking and can integrate lots of semi-quantitative info.)

And finally JW has the "thermal squirrel" in his brain also finding thermals.

That's two animals brains and a computer; a lot of parallel processing going on.

Meanwhile, I'm using my own parallel processing to make sure my plane is turned on and trying to find a place to launch where I won't hit anything.

Wow! That was really real. Must repair my plane and get back to thermaling business.

Does 6.5 have a DLG or do you have to import it?

You have to import it. Thanks to Fly_Electric he modeled my modified SuperGee II scratch build and I flight tuned/tested it. See Post #1 in this thread.

Thanks Curtis and Fly_ Electric! It's nice to fly something while it's 6 degrees snowing and dark here in Bronco land.

Bob I'm no expert with RealFlight but I just imported the field and plane to my 4.5 version and it works great.

Armchair pilot tonight.

Really? I've tried to use 6.5 design files and they haven't worked for me before. I'll give it another try.
Thanks
Bob

Looks like I need 4.5 or above. I have 3.5

thanks for this thread. I down loaded the content and imported it. For my limited experience with DLG it feels pretty real.

You are welcome John. It was an honor to work with Curtis on the SG II. As a bonus, I learned more about DLGs during the build.
