Hi string,
remember me? It's quite a few years, that we were in contact. I'am on the right on the first picture, which has been taken at 2012 edition of Inter-Ex. If you need to know something about the ray not yet covered by Toby simply ask. Design is from Lutz Näkel.
Here's a short video from the maiden of the first prototype. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1369292/Videos/Glubschi.wmv

Hi StephanB ! Yes I remember you! Thanks for the video. Very nice.
I love your website. So many wonderful different cool flying stuff. So many so unique !!!

What kind of paint did you use ? Did you use Selitron (foam) on yours? I just have Depron. I assume it should work ok. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
Depron will be ok. Paint used was foam-friendly colour in spray cans, brand is Marabu. A little bit of airbrushing for the finish.

Thanks StephanB.

Parts all cut. Just have to assemble, install radio and motor, paint and fly. Easy breezy....

Thank you !
I want to build this one and I don't understand German.
The Germans have some great designs and it's making me want to learn the language.
I can't wait to see some build pics.

Here comes my conversion in UMX-size
I scaled the plans down to 45% and built the stingray from 1,5mm and 1mm foam.
Motor and electronics are from an eflite UMX-4site and the AUW is 37g.
But sorry, no photos from the build

My friend (Richard N) sent me some other links.
Some building pics at a club meet but with servos inside. I think I will just do mine from the bottom like the plans.

Also some nice google pics of the Taeniura Lymma (Ribbontail Stingray).

I like the rust colored ones. but the yellows and green are nice.

It has the same flying caracteristics as the the "big one".
Also the same wingload. I could fly it together with StephanB and Lutz ( designer )
with theyr`s at a small Indoor-meeting in Nov. last year. We had lots of fun

Building pics

Some building pics.
I cut out the two wing pieces. Before I installed the span wise carbon pieces I did the tip bends using a 3 1/2 piece of pvc pipe. I rolled the Depron first back and forth then held it in position and ran my heat gun back and forth some to set the curve. Both tips are about 3 1/2 inches up and start about 7 inches out. Cut the slits for the carbon span wise and CA'ed and kicked them in place. Then installed a 1 x 3 mm carbon piece length wise (front to back) joining the two wings pieces together. Glued in the front 6mm formers in place and some 1/16 ply center cross piece and nose/motor plate.
Working on the main body piece. It takes some sanding to make it fit the front former and transition to the rear. I did have to split the Depron in the rear to join the rear together. Will glue and fill as needed when I glue the sides down. Should be ok since everything gets painted.
