Britplan Build off Wendy

I will be building the Wendy by Brian Fry which was published in Model Aircraft Dec 1954. The wingspan of Wendy is 36" and it was designed for a 1 cc diesel which seems a little large but I will be using an ED Bee for power so it should be OK. I will build it as per plan, possibly adding rc for rudder only so I can fly it at smaller fields.

Again, for anyone interested, this is the original Wendy construction article from December 1954 MA.

Thanks for the article Ray, it cleared up a few details missing on the plan.
I spent Sunday evening tracing the plans (using Corel) for printing.
I spent today cutting out parts and starting building. The two pictures show my progress and the intended engine, an ED Bee. The engine bearers are not glued in they are being used for alignment. I have decided to go with single channel RC on the rudder.

Oh look, he's got a fake engine for that 'period' look - where are you going to hide the outrunner?

Looking good!

Crikey, fast progress there! I had forgotten how "chunky" this short moment arm/LAR design is.

"Chunky"-yes . I was surprised at the suggestion of 1cc diesel for power but now I see it in the flesh it has a lot of presence for a 36" wingspan model.
Outrunner- I have plenty of those, I keep them in my pure RC planes (even helicopters!), but I still prefer the noise and smell of fuel power

Managed to do some more work on the fuselage. The picture shows the progress so far. There are some awkward bevel joints at the rear of the cabin area but they worked out OK. The picture also shows the unusual oval window. I made the window pieces from two layers of balsa (1/32 hard and 3/32) to form a rebate so the clear material can be fitted easier.

Glad to see you have reproduced those oval windows, they are a very distinctive feature of the model. It's going to be nice.

Exactly that! There was someone else who did something similar, though IIRC he put the outrunner behind the motor shell and had it driving the back of the motor crankshaft (piston and conrod removed)....

Hi Ray, How about the plan, do you have it?
Thanks

Excellent fake engine jrs, I have seen similar at local fields but nothing as realistic as yours.
I have attached more pics showing progress today. The landing gear has been bent and attached. The nose area has some basic shaping started. I have installed the servo which will mimic old style single channel r/c with a rotary output.
Edubarca the plan is available from outerzone, that's where I got mine.

Looking good. Had me fooled. Looked like a “real diesel”.
Must be the diesel addiction.

Looks more like a 'sparker' actually, maybe a fake GHQ? would certainly run better than an original!
