How do you secure the engine on this and the stand on something firm like a table?

You loosen the wingnuts on top and you can adjust the width of the uprights to the width of your engine, and slide the engine mounting tabs between the thin wood pieces and the wood uprights and tighten the wingnuts down... Then you can clamp it to a workbench or put it in a vice, or screw it down... I have two of them and they work fantastic.......

Wouldnt the engine mounts slip off from between wood pieces due to vibration? What size can this take... upto 160 size?

No....... Because there is a metal pin in the under side of the wooden piece that goes in the mounting holes on the engine... I have had mine for years and never had a problem...
