I have never ever seen anything like Matt and his 727 that year. It was awesome. I was sure it was going to crash into something and Matt pulled it off. There was a collective inhale of about 300 or more people, all at once, the 727 almost quit flying because of the people inhaling. Then when the 727 cleared everything, the exhale almost put it into the ground. It was one of those once in a lifetime events at an indoor event.

What a great time that was!!

I think there is a video that Fred shot. I know I saw one the year it happened. I relived it a couple times and I don't drink, so I know it wasn't just in my mind, but I thought I saw a video of it.
Higher Plane Productions.

I think Mark may have gotten a photo of it in the air, but as Frank says, everyone at the tables were heading for cover as well as vendors, spectators, pilots and everyone hoped the 727 didn't come crashing down on a table. It was an amazing flight. Matt got it down without any problem. I would have had to gone to the men's room, gotten a different pair of underwear to wear.

Yes there is a much better video of the flight that shows the landing on Higher Plane Productions from E-Fest 2010.

Come on Frank, that thing was mostly air. Plus all the weight was in the rear so I had a large foam "crumple" zone for worst case scenario!!! The only electronic component in front of the wing was a little 2 cell 800mAh....and you still had 5 inches of nose until you got to that! hehe

Awesome! Thanks for finding it. At a few points, you could really hear the difference in the ambient noise as people got quiet. I aspire to build a Boeing 737 out of depron and maybe even enter it into the scale competition, but alas, I didn't get to building it this year.

OK Folks.. I have the pilot number cards, score sheets and AWARDS DONE.

If Sean Cassidy (last year’s winner) can make it this year I would like the Number 1 pilot badge to go to him.

See ya all on the flight line very soon!

Hi Guys,

Just found out I will be able to come to E-Fest this year! I'm really looking forward to it. One of my favorite parts of the event is the Scale Contest. There have been so many impressive entries over the past few years. I'm glad Mike is CD'ing it this year. I definitely remember Matt's 727 from 2010! That was an amazing aircraft that looked so full-size when it flew. It could not have been easy to fly in there!

Here's a couple of photos of it - Great job Matt!

It's interesting to me how airliners seem to be such a fringe part of the hobby - maybe because they don't do much in the way of aerobatics. Whatever the case may be, it's nice to see them make an appearance every once in a while.

I dont want to poop :-) on everybody’s fun but will make this DEAD CLEAR.

We are going to static as many airplanes as we can, enter away!.. BUT.. if you enter multiple airplanes I’m only going to allow ONE (your highest static scoring, don’t care if it’s your worst flying) into the flying portion. REMEMBER we ONLY have 8 flying slots and I will not plug it up with one guy bringing multiple entries. I want to give all the competitors a chance at those 8 slots and a plaque.

Questions?

Pilots,

I have just confirmed that our judges for 2013 are going to be:
Mr. “on the sticks” Jim Martin,
The ever “Scale” Mr. Dennis Crooks
And past Top Gun Winner himself Mr. Terry Nitsch

Join me in thanking and welcoming them!
