The balsa parts have been covered in paper. The paper used is known as 'bank' or 'flimsy' paper. Most bank paper weighs 45g/M^2 the paper I used is only 30g/M^2 and has great wet strength.

This is how I applied the bank paper........
1) 2 coats of dope to the balsa sanding in between.
2)Drag the paper across a bowl of water to wet but not saturate.
3)Smooth the paper over the balsa.
4)Soak the paper with thinners to attach it to the doped balsa underneath.

The fuselage needed 4 peices to cover.

The tailerons are being fitted...........using a slow-drying glue and plenty of jigging to everthing perfectly alligned.

The tailerons are all-moving. The hinge point is placed at 25% MAC. The hinge is 4mm carbon in a brass tube.

WOW! I have been trying to figure out what this thing was going to look like when you were finished. Man that's a really good looking aircraft. These things are so freaking hard to build and then fly, let alone make them look as cool as this. Hope it flies well for you.

Thanks Guys,

I snuck out for a short flight lunchtime today. The wind was 0, however, it was cold overcast and it had been raining all morning.

A handlaunch on about 3/4 throttle saw it climb away strongly, indeed, I took off all the up trim I'd just put in previously. I was flying at a school soccer field so I just cruised around for the first flight.

1st impressions then.............
There were no nasty surprises, the CG looked ok, the model will cruise around on a very low throttle setting. The model just glides on and on and on making it hard to land.

Lookin forward to flying at our regular site so I can really wring it out.

Get some video asap.

For something new I tried a spreadsheet cg calculator.

The calculator gave me the Neutral Point at 29%MAC So I placed the CG at 23% MAC. 6% Static Margin (I think?) (OMG: starting to sound like an aerodynamics expert)

The above calculations and assumptions seemed to work in practice.

The chosen colour scheme is inspired by the israeli airforce camouflage designs.

Tried to get some video yesterday but failed. Had a duration problem because one cell had gone down.

Nevertheless managed to get it almost trimmed-out. Needed an up-elevator mix with the throttle to cure a stong pitch down when opening the throttle.
