1/18th Scale Fittings f/Richardson
I'm considering making a replica of an old model boat kit that my dad had. It's the Richardson Sedan Cruiser by Ideal Models. My brother and I have it now. I plan to leave that model as is, but would like to loft it up and make a replica for r/c. I believe it is 1/18th scale since the model is 22 5/8" long and it's patterned after a 34' long hull.
I got some sage advise from Tim B. He recommended that I think ahead and make sure I can obtain fittings to whatever scale I decide on. So far, I haven't had much luck finding any fittings in 1/18th scale. Any suggestions? I've attached a picture of the hardware that came with the original Richardson kit. I found this picture on the internet. While I have have been making model boats for a long, long time, this will be my first attempt at scale. |

Unless somebody has a spare fittings kit somewhere in the bins of their shop, you are out of luck.
To my knowledge, nobody makes fittings in 1/18 scale, which is an orphan size. Why would they? |

Are the fittings on your dad's boat accessible? Consider removing them (if possible) and making rubber molds and resin castings. These can be cleaned up and painted with Alclad II for a fairly convincing chrome effect.
There is a neat 2-part rubber that has a SillyPutty consistency, and can be used the same way... just squish it around a part in situ to make the mold: http://www.bare-metal.com/Experts-Ch...Mix-Ratio.html |
