Idea
it seems like technology we should have by now
Is there some kind of auto pilot for planes tha will land your plane for you?

several. Check out autopilots in the FPV sections and on FPV websites. I am installing RVOSD- I can turn off my radio and it will fly itself home.

It will either loiter above in a pattern or will land; whatever you program it to do.
