HiSKY FBL100/ WLToys V922 Preliminary findings thread
Woke up to someone knocking on my door this morning, and guess what? It was the delivery guy with my V922!
So I signed for it and tore the box open with quite a lot of enthusiasm. Here are some preliminary findings... if you guys have any questions, ask away! I'll change this thread into the V922 Review thread once I complete the review. From the box: V922 helicopter x1 6 channel tx x1 Spares pack x1 (screw set, linkage set, spare blades *main and tail* and a phillips screwdriver) Charger (with adapters) x1 3.7V 300mah 30C battery x2 ok, where to start... let's start at the charger first because..surprisingly enough, that's the first thing that caught my eye. The charger that comes with the 922 is a USB charger that could charge V911 batteries, V939 batteries (Walkera connector) and the V922 battery (with the supplied adapter cables). Now onto the transmitter... it's got an idle-up mode (though in beginner mode it functions a little differently than usual... in that the motor does not spool up and if you put the throttle at it's lowest point, the blades will stop spinning instead of going to full negative pitch ). There's a throttle hold toggle on the right, everything else is pretty standard. The modes can be changed via a button on the lower right hand corner (the high and low rates are also toggled here), and a slider above the power button can swap the throttle stick position. The stick tension is quite nice and the overall feel of the transmitter is much better than any other WLToys product I've owned so far... The heli itself: the board utilizes plugs for everything including the wire going to the battery... there are 3 linear servos that seem quite exposed...and the landing gear seems very flimsy (though that's not necessarily a bad thing, it could be very strong :P the V922 is very stable in flight...sometimes it will drift to the left or the right a little, but that's easily fixed with a little bit of rudder trim. The tail holds nicely in flight even if you pump the throttle a bit..though I have yet to see how it holds up in inverted flight and all.(update: the tail does have a hard time keeping up with more aggresive stunts... Will test more and report back). Ok, so above are the findings within an hour of me getting my hands on the V922. It seems to be a very nicely made product and I'm glad to have it as my second CP. Let me know if there are any things that you guys want to see in the review... I'm no expert on 6 channel helis but I do have a friend who is, and I'll leave the crazier stunts for him to try out :P Cheers, James |

Hi,
I have a few questions: 1. What kind of programming options (if any?) does the transmitter have? Can you set throttle and pitch curves? 2. How about putting up a picture of the charging cable and the adapters supplied? Which type of v911 battery (old, new or both) can be charged? 3. Obviously this is for beginners, and a lot of potential users like myself will be transitioning from v911s, so do you have any comments about how difficult this is to fly for someone moving from a v911? 4. How does it handle outdoor flying? Merry XMas and holiday greetings! |

Thanks for the comments guys,
@lonepilot, there is a simulator port on the rear of the TX and it seems to be a JR port, which uses the mono audio cable. @Lentar, 1) There are no programming options for the transmitter, it is set at factory settings. 2) I will get that done asap :P 3) The V922 is very stable, but transitioning from the V911 still would take some practice (make sure you buy plenty of spare props :P) I think it's a logical next step if you want to go the way of the helicopters... but there will be a learning curve for sure. 4) I have yet to fly it outdoors, but CPs generally are better in the wind when compared to FP helis and I'm sure the WLToys one will handle the wind just fine. Merry Christmas to the both of you! |

@Jasen, going the devo way is also a good choice, I've got the Super FP and it is a champ..so hopefully there'll be no regrets
When you are ready for a CP, there's always the option of stepping up to the Mini Cp, the Genius CP or the recently available Super CP |

I just finished reading a chinese review of the helicopter and then you've wrote yours. Lucky China folks getting their V922 first! The guy wrote that the initialization is very important to a stable flight. He didn't initialize on a stable horizontal surface and his helicopter drifted badly (cyclic and tail). May be the tail drift could be "fixed" without rudder trims?
Let's see some videos! |

yes, it's very important to initialize it on a horizontal surface... a little slanted and the heli won't fly right at all. The rudder drift only appears once in a while.
It's closing in on -20 degrees C near the weekend so I'm not flying her outside these few days... hope the weather gets a little better next week... I think I'm grounded this week though. |

Yes I have contacted the factory and they said they do not have the capacity to make spares just yet. They are in over their heads just trying to make the heli itself, but they said that the spares Will be available very soon.

Are the controls inverted when flying upside down? I saw a video about this heli which stated that you fly it upside down like you would if it were flying it normally. Something which is good for beginners, but if you "learn" on this then move on to something which doesn't reverse the controls for you when it's upside down, then you'll crash.
If this can't be turned off, then it's a no-go for me. Also, can it be bound to say... a Turnigy 9X? |

Hey Wiseduck,
The 922 has 2 flight modes, the stunt mode functions like you said in beginner mode but if you try stunt mode in expert mode, the stunt mode functions like any other CP. I'm used to the conventional stunt mode and when I tried flying it in the beginner stunt mode, I crashed more times than I could count. In short, yes it can be turned off :P |
