Have you looked on the Robart website? They have a good range, but not sure if there's anything that's specifically for the P-40

I checked there, the robostrut were pretty nice. unless I find something better, I think I am going with the Century Jet Products P-40 Retracts.

Honestly? I have never been impressed with the quality of the CJM retracts I have had. Not very scale looking, either. I would look further. Did you try Sierra Precision?

I found that while CJM is a nice company, nice people, with some nice kits, they way they make their oleos and the scissor links, with a pop rivet, is downright awful.
Other sources...there is a guy named Lenny Sarbin who makes retracts. You might also contact Yellow Aircraft, and see who makes them for their P-40.

He somewhere out there on the web, try a google search.
Likes lines also makes retracts, but they may be too large.
Unitracts also makes them, but from the few that I have seen, the CJM ones seem nicer...

I have a trop-flite 1/7 scale p-40, and have had it for about 20 years. No crashes 6 channel Futaba. I used Rhom-air for mine, and still no issues whenever I decide to fly my "pig". Used to have a Fox Eagle 60, now goes on a Fox 78. I have another Eagle 60, bought at the same time the kit was in 1973, still in the box, never run in 30 years. Anyway, that's what you need. Trust me.
