Just Plane Nuts
Louierc's Avatar
Just an update after some flights of the AJ-404:

The 200 mAh LipO provides plenty of flying time, it flies well at half throttle

It will spin well with full rudder

It will glide somewhat with the power off. My down thrust and right thrust must be about right, since there is not much correction needed under power.

A fun plane to fly, just watch the wind and remember that it is not a foamie !

My AJ-404 Interceptor came in at 5.5 ounces when I built it, mainly because I added ailerons to mine. The maiden flight stalled due to not enough power. I had to upgrade the motor. Once I got a stronger motor in mine, it flew brilliantly.

One effect I've noticed about the extra weight was that it had a better glide slope. Beautiful power off glide, in fact.
I've discussed this at some length with Pat Tritle, and I think the reason why is because when the plane is light enough, the drag is greater than the momentum. When you increase momentum (a direct result of increasing the weight), then drag no longer exceeds momentum and a more normal glide slope is possible.

Can you please tell me which motor you used?
