Well the bottom wing is sanded, sorta. Now to add the leading edge sheeting and sand some more. I might have the wings finished by monday. LOL

Waiting for the glue to dry so I can iron the last piece of sheeting onto the bottom wing. Then will sand to shape and mount to the fuse.

I used the AP glue iron-on method on 1/16" leading edge sheeting on a model. Slick!

How thick is the sheeting on your Pitts?

This sheeting is 3/32.I have used this method up to 3/16. I also use water, really helps.

You mean you give it a spritz of water to soften the outside of the wood for easier bending?

That would be correct, spray and/or soak.
The wing is mounted. The water under the iron steams and really helps curve the wood by the expansion created. The steam also helps the heat penetrate easier/ quicker.

I have double checked everything and indepently everything is per plans. But the gear pitch too far forward when mounted, they should be inline with the bulkhead. So I am going to have to unbraze them, readjust, and braze'em back together.

And the reason the gear pitch too far forward is because I built them square and true over the plan. I did not account for the angle they would be set on. So I have rebuilt them. Much better now. Near perfect I would say. I also added the center wire for the shock while I was at it. So they are done and mounted.

The gear are done. In the pic you can see where the rear of the gear will slide into a slot and the front is hard mounted. Doing the gear this way accomplishes two thing's. One, they are removeable and two, if there is any give it will not break the wing. But simply slide rearward. I also posted a pic of the rudder and elevator servo mount.
One must take into account that I use 55% silver brazing wire and when setting the gear up it get's tied together with brass wire. I think it would have to be a real, real, real bad landing to have any effect on the gear.

Not much to show, but I have framed up the belly pan. Not quite done yet. The red arrow is the front former, yellow middle, and blue is the rear. The black arrow is where a 4-40 will go to secure the rear of the pan, the wing bolts fall in line with the spars so they are out. And the purple is where two 1/8" dowels will go to secure the front.
