180mAh vs 300mAh

I thought I'd get a little more scientific and do some static thrust tests using my Eagle Tree eLogger. I'm testing using the the all in one Dualsky motor/ESC and a 6x3 prop. For each battery I'm using up the first 30mAh with the motor running at full throttle.

The 180mAh battery levels out at 6.85V with 2.9A being drawn, compared to 7.2V and 3.7A for the 300mAh battery. This is a 0.35V difference when pulling away at full throttle! I think this explains why the power seemed to keep fading on the 180mAh battery.

What do other people see in these graphs?

Very nice Francis. Is it me or did the tail look like it was twisting?

The mini has spoiled me. After flying it I'm looking at the Piits and standard Yak wondering why they are responding so slow. Think I'm going need to switch to 3s and digital servos.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Yes Kamikze, the tail was twisting a bit. Didn't seem to affect flight performance though, haha

Whilst I wasn't used to the feel of the DX8, I had a great time and was fortunate enough to get a new video filmed by friend and edited by me!

Tell me what you think!

How are you getting to 80 grams rtf? I just finished 2 and they're at 100 grams rtf with 300 Nanos.

Gear selection, minimum use of glue, milling, shortened wires etc, plenty of ways to cut down on the weight.

The F3P guys have it mastered going light on planes.

I have not noticed any power fading on the 180's. However, I do not run at full throttle until 30mAh depleted. Also, suggest flying style, RTF weight, motor/esc combo and flight time, will determine the reserve power with the 180 battery.

Gary Holland can best answer. However, here is his quote:

"I used LSX HS 4.7grm all round, Tiger T1804 on a 7x35 and a Turnigy 6 Amp ESC. Weight came in at bang on 80grms rtf with a Nano 180 pack"

Note: He did shave the Nano pack down to 10 grams.

This is a little un-edited warm up flight from this afternoon's session.

Indoor 3D Twisted Mini Style (4 min 55 sec)

Francis, nice video. That's some nice editing work.

Things are definitely light on the F3P side of things. We just started a Spies and are still waiting on a few things to make the plane light like magnet wire and carbon tube. I didn't think any of those techniques would find a place on the EPP 3D freestyle planes but why the heck not? The Mini and CY Lite seem to float fairly well as is and I would think that cutting a few grams here and there would make a big difference.

Enjoying my Yak Lite very much with a RTF weight of 139 grams (4.9 oz). Maintains its precise control authority, however, with the reduced wing loading, places it very much in a different flight envelope.

Well I think my Dualsky took one too many hits and the motor has come loose from the ESC board and has stopped working. Is there any way to fix this or do I place an order for a new one?

Thanks,
