Not the easiest kit that I ever built because of the a fair amount of sheeting but as you can see, worth the effort!!! But that sheeting gets you a removable cowl for battery access and a great Mustang air scoop. I had to buy a piece of black and a piece of white Monokote trim sheet but the kit comes with 2 full sheets of very scale decals (mylar). Even has the decal for the wing camera and gas caps...

I fly it with either 8-1950 FAUP's or 10-CP1300's and get a very nice 8-10 minutes flying with the Astro 020. Probably my favorite of all planes that I've built so far. Really gets looks and comments at the field. Still needs the landing gear covers and dummy exhaust but I couldn't wait to get it in the air.

Very tough plane. Cartwheeled it on a glitchie takeoff (antenna tucked in the plane) - Duh. Busted a little of the of the left wingtip where in other planes a lighter crash broke the plane in half. Just took a little CA and a little more of the chrome Monokote which after a repair is invisible at the seams.

I'll post a few bones shots also.

Cowl open - uses a piece of wire and a ball-point pen spring. Works great.

Yea, I went a little overboard with the red paint but I didn't stop until you couldn't see anything but red through the front scoop.

BTW - The P-51 comes with engine mount firewalls for both the Astro 020 and the Speed 400/480 bolt size/pattern.

Wing off - Access to the other two HS-55 servos and the receiver. Also note the laser cut holes in the cockpit florring to help with air movement. The floor is lite ply.

Note the rivet details. Cool trick Don from HOB told me about. Use a material marking wheel that you (your wife) goes and gets from a sewing shop. Juse run it on the chrome Monokote to get the dents that look very scale.

JL, Although the kit has outstanding quality in the balsa, vac formed parts, hardware and mylar decals, it is still a standard kit that requires you to provide the stuff like the wheels, prop, motor, esc, 4 servos, batteries, 1.5 rolls of covering, glues and the pilot if you want one. The instruction manual has a detailed list of what's required including the specifics on the part numbers from Dubro and so on.

If you want the detailed part list I would be happy to get the instruction manual and post the list here.

This is a link to the pdf details on the kit. Just saw that HOB is working on an Edge 540. Can't wait!!!

I thought that. It would be great if you can post that list. This could help to know the final price of this kit.

thanks!!

Looks great - I like the crome covering (except the weight!)

I have got to get one of these with a Mega 15/25/4 turn in it.....

Another HOB P-51

Just thought somebody might like to see another HOB p-51.
This one flies scale like with a speed 480 and an 8 cell NiMh pack.
Still books right along on those low passes and pulls up for nice turns. This is an older one from the 70's or 80's. Looks great in flight. Getting ready to try brushless motors and LIpoly's now.
