If you have trouble naming any of history's great conservatives, then you truly don't know what Political Conservatism is, (as it pertains to America) and are ignorant of American history and its founding. I'll help you out and throw a few names out there for you:
John Locke
Alexis de Tocqueville
Charles de Montesquieu
Do some research, educate yourself, it's fun!
The problem is that none of those people would pass the GOP purity tests of today's Conservative right wing. They'd get Teaparty primaried out faster than you can say "RINO"... (So would Ronald Reagan, for that matter)

If you claim Lincoln as equivalent to a modern conservative, how do you distill out all those modern conservatives calling for secession?

USS Gerald Ford.

You don't even have to be elected president to get an aircraft carrier named after you if you wer a Republican president.

I was raised by two Democrats, who in NO way could be called liberal. For those that say that the "right" has gone too far, I submit to you that BOTH the parties have gone way too far in their respective ideaology. Liberals, and Liberalism is completely ridiculous, and the far right is as well. I prefer to meet somewhere in the middle, and be governed Constitutionally!
I see some on here who have gone off the deep end both ways, and to me it scares the crap outta me for my kid and possible grandkids future, especially with the clown we have in the White House now...

Many conservatives don't want any controls AT ALL, but that only works if people act responsibly...
