I've seen it
I've had my eye on you guys for awhile.
Was at this stage of the design 5 or 6 years ago.
Air2Air combat has patent rights in the US for IR relationships in RC Aircraft very similar to this.

Our pilot don't really get to enjoy the effects like the spectators do. We're on the same page we just do things differently. You're likely understand when people start asking you guys questions why we chose this route

How can there be a patent like this, seriously?!

http://www.google.com/patents/US7806371

Anyone can come up with the idea to combine such things, sometimes I feel like making a patent generator, just combine any two things iteratively.... =(

It has very little to do with the IR ~ six years designing an aircraft to do combat simulation and maybe you'll get the idea.

Patents are only as good as your lawyer. Good luck defending this one.

The Patent is irrelevant, it just shows who designed it if the deep pockets decide to hang on to your coattails.
If you're invited to an air combat simulation airshow at least you'll know whose it is.

There are all sorts of patents around, some are more just than others. A patent protection means that the invention cannot be commercially made, used, distributed or sold without the patent owner's consent for a period of time. So enthusiasts can make such systems for their own personal use.

The patent described here ticks me off a little, because the idea seems to be an old one. For example Air Combat USA has used some sort of electronic tracking system on their aircraft to mock combat. I believe that some of the features of the patented system already exist in prior art and therefore cannot be patented. Looks to me that the person just patented what other people had already thought of before.
