I just finished making my parallel buzzer cable so I can use both the controller alarm and voltage display on the screen and the other external buzzer that is louder and used to check the individual cells. It looks like it's working fine. Just the way I wanted. More wires but it works.

Weight vs time
I have to say, that you have done a nice job documenting your quad, experiences, tips & tricks.
Since I'm relatively new to this aspect of the hobby, I'd like to share my results since our quads are comparable. I have a DJI F450 with stock 920Kv motors, 10x4.5 props, stock ESC's and the KK2 V1.4. I use Turnigy 2200mAH 3S batteries and fly a timed 9 minutes with this arrangement, never discharging my packs to 20%. Depending on how aggressively I fly a full recharge will take 1400+mAH to just shy of 1700mAH. I have used a 3700mAH 3S & hovered for 21+ minutes before tripping the low voltage alarm, (10.5V) requiring 3200mAH +/- to recharge. So what is my point? My quad weighs 904grams with the battery and 989g with the FreeStyle camera mounted & battery shifted for CG. Weight is a way to kill time, but not in a favorable way with anything that flies. Weigh yours. |

Thanks! I thought about that and I'm sure mine is not a lightweight by any means. I'm sure you are getting better times due to the lower kv motors you use as well. I do need to put the wattmeter on there, but just like playing with it once I got it flying. I'll get some more numbers eventually. I don't have a large scale for this, so I can't weigh it at the moment. I'm, sure I can cut some more weight, but at the moment I'm not too worried as I have the timers working on my 9x with the open9x which helps a bunch. I've only done a few flights so I'm still getting used to it. I do like your 21 minute flight. I'm trying not to go that low on the battery since I only have four batteries now, but I got a bit longer flights when I first went down that low. I'm trying to keep it at about 11 volts or even 10.8 volts, but I just don't want to go lower as it took longer to recharge them when I did. They work just fine, but I'll play it a bit safer for now. Please feel free to add some of your quad pictures if you like. I also forgot to mention, I really don't want to go with larger props, I just don't like them that close to my hands, so this is my other trade off at the moment.

Rather than clutter up your well documented build I've put some pictures and info of the F450 here: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...4#post24156489

Not a problem. Very cool, we have the same camera. That's the same thing I've been doing, I just put a small piece of double sided tape on top of the velcro I already had there to angle it down a bit more. This got rid of my props, but I know I used a smaller size than yours. I need to figure out a better strap since the last time I tested with it it ended up rolling off once the quad hit the ground. No harm done, but I thought it would stay put with just the cable tie. Luckily I had the foam which kept it from flying off somewhere and it was at night too so I may have lost my camera then too. Anyway this was befoere I figured out my settings and the quad was still falling down.

The screw to secure your camera is 1/4", (coarse thread I believe). Very common. I use a Nylon one which can be picked up at your local hardware store for small change. You can shorten a long one with an Xacto knife fairly easily. The Nylon may also absorb some energy and prevent camera damage in the event of a hard landing, (?crash?).
I am curious if you have tested flight times and current draw with your Quad? |

Thanks RCAdik...I have been testing the couple of batteries I have and get about 5 to 7 minutes since they are fairly small. Also I did forget to mention that these longer legs are actually pretty light so the weight difference won't be too much. I think the rubber grommets will take care of the dampening as they seem pretty good and the large servo seems to work fine too. The camera I'm using is also light. Thanks for the info on the screw. I think I can handle that. I may go with a metal one because I don't want the camera rolling off somewhere. I did that once and almost lost it at night. I still haven't heard anything from goodluckbuy as the piece I'm missing is fairly big. It's the piece on the #2 in the assembly diagram, so it's a pretty important piece. I'm also waiting for another multiwii board that I want to use with the gimbal. I may have to use it with the kk2 for the time being I guess. I'm not sure yet, because I do want to try out the 1100kv motors, but that board and the other kit for my spare parts is still not here and won't be here for a while since two other items are still back ordered on the hk order I have them in.

I finally got most of the camera mount all set up, well minus the missing piece. It's always something. I guess it won't hurt to upgrade the kk2 firmware either. I just need to take the props off and write down the settings. It's basically stock with throttle and alarm changes if I remember correctly, but I need to just double check. Either way I like the simplicity of the mount. I notice some of them have one too many things on there. I'm not sure what else they do, but I prefer them simple unless there is a very special need. In my case I would like to control the camera servos with the pots/knobs, that would be pretty cool if I can get a controller with gps hold.

I added a couple of cable ties to make sure the legs and booms don't separate. I'm sure glue and tape could work too, but this is simple and clean. Not the best looking but it's very functional and should keep these pieces together. The landing booms, well those are a bit tougher to tie, so tape or glue may be better there, but as they are they don't pop out. Of course I'll update once I get some time with it as is. The quad plate sits on the top so this seems to work fine. At least this should keep it affordable for most people. I try to keep this in mind as my budget is slim to none. For now it looks like I can just take off the four screws holding the quad to this landing gear and it's a bit smaller that way. This may get old fast though. Still looking for washers.

Here's a video with the point and shoot on it. I'm using the KK2 board with the gimbal firmware.

I like all your trial and error and it all came out nice. I ordered the same setup to replace one of my quads. I have 2 flying nice and want to replace the stamped out aluminum frame on one as it is a nuisance keeping it straight. The Q450 I have like yours is rugged and straight. I also want to setup my camera like yours. Did you just plug in the servos to the board? Can you show or tell how to setup the camera servos. Maybe even a link will do. Thanks. Good job. **Neons** Bob |
