How do you define 'Crash'


I've been flying since early September and just passed the 25 (~20 solo) hour mark on my Cessna Sky trainer. I get an hour of stick time every time i fly (6 batteries). I started on Buddy Box. So far I have managed to avoid a crash. (For some definition of crash) which is why I ask. What do you define as a crash? I have had a few rough landings but haven't done anything more than superficial damage (scratches, dents in foam, bent landing gear wire.)

I just want to know what you consider to be a crash.

For me it's just any landing that causes damage to the plane (excluding props), theory being that a smooth and well-executed landing doesn't normally do that.

If I need to fix the airframe before it will fly again I have crashed. Props and bent landing gear are fixable on the spot and are just hard landings or wear and tear.

Yeah pretty much... a crash is anything that needs serious fixing, particularly damage to the airframe.

Probably perfectly possible to write a plane off without the damage being rated as 'a crash' going by that definition. I snapped the fuselage in half on one of my 3D planes a few months back. All the wood was busted but the covering held it together. I guess that wasn't a crash after all

By that definition, it would seem like I crash a plane every time I pop the wing off to install or remove a battery

What about flat foamies that don't have an inside at all? Are they uncrashable?

I've seen the inside of my flat foamies. You just have not crashed hard enough yet if you haven't.

I define a crash as a crash if glue of some sort is needed to exact a repair. If no glue is needed it's not a crash.

My father on the other hand was of a different school of thought. He always said "there are no such things as crashes, only hard landings".

A crash is when your airplane cannot fly properly after the incident! It might get off the ground with a handing tail, but it ain't going far!
