blade dimensions at the grip

Have a friend who flies 500 and 600 now and gave me a few unused 325mm wood blades. The grip section is waaaay to thick to fit into my grips. I just assumed wood needs to be thicker for strength.

Now I'm shopping for blades and I notice that hobby king is giving the grip sizes - one (fiberglass) is 5mm and comments say you need shims to keep them tight? Still other fiberglass blades have comments that they are too thick for the grips.
Since I don't do any 3D or high G stuff, figuring out which ones to order is no problem - I just need a new battery for my micrometer to measure my grips.

But now I am curious why they vary so much, even in the fiberglass stuff. Fat ones for higher headspeed or maybe strapping on a heavy camera?

And do some of you guys buy special grips to fit the fat ones or the skinny ones?

the great Gassif´er
No idea why there is so much variation in that matter....
I have Spinblades (350 mm) that have blade roots that are a lot thinner than the bladegrips of my Copter-X heads.... And the thing is: I cannot find a rotorhead that has grips that are a direct fit for the Spinblades. Spinblades do not sell their own head as far as I know
It is completely beyond me, why any manufacturer would build blades with "just some" root thickness.

In the .50~.60 size there seems to be a standard of 14 mm, and even that I cannot find any info as to why it should be that measurement....

I just look for shims at the autoshop to get my blades to fit....

I can't justify that kind of money for the kind of flying I do.
I never drive over 70, I see no reason to buy a porsche.

For what I do, those $6.30 blades will work just as well as the $40 ones.

I never asked what blades are best, what are most expensive... just why they have a variation in the width of the grip.
