Arduino Based CL Timer for Speed


Hi Everyone !

I want to show you my DIY - Timer made of an Arduino Nano Board.

Still in development, but it already works a bit.
It is designed for Speed Applications, but with other software it would be possible to use it for everything else.

Flight time in the Video is shortened for testing.

The LED means :
Red - Akku connected
Yellow - initialising of the controller (blink) and accelerating or braking (steady)
Green - Full Throttle (steady) end of flight (blink)

Weight is 17g.

It is planned that the accelaration stops at a adjustable throttle to grab the speed pole and place the fork for a time.after that it will go to full throttle, like a reso would do after whipping. It is already programmed but yet not tested.

You can adjust :
amount of accelaration ( that you have a softer start)
Plateau time
Plateau speed ( plateau means the "reso" imitation)

It`s missing the start switch, have to buy one first. It is possible to connect it to the bellcrank as a shutoff.

Oh, battery was weak, so it didn`t reach top RPM`s.

Hi Everyone !

Here is the code.
Have much fun building !

It would be wise to add a additional switch to prevent the motor from accidental running.

The code is the Version with the "plateau" . It is now tested and runs fine.
Change the file extension from .txt to .ino, then it will work

Please use the new one.
Just copy&paste it to the Arduino IDE.

Hello !

New Hardware update !

No potis anymore and just one RGB LED. But now i have extra a button to start the engine besides the Main switch. Main Switch also acts as a energy shutoff, when linked to the bellcrank.
Pen is for size comparison .. .. ?..
Now much better for installation.


Have to do the Software now.

Hello !!

I'm very interested in your arduino based timer, i want to develop my own timer for F2B.

I'm a a newbie in arduino projects, but i want to build my own timer and i will buy a arduino nano board.

I think your code is the same that i need to F2B timer.. i need to control the speed, the time and one switch to start. I think in other functions like a delay between the start button and start engine, in order to have time to run to the handle. Other function may be a signal before engine stop.

Flyinglog, thanks for sharing the project. I made the timer and it worked fine.
Could you share the timer software with buttons? (No potis anymore and just one RGB LED).

I practice C / L in Brazil, f2b.

Hello !

I will see what i can find on my HDD.
I did not write it to the end, because i now use a 2,4 ghz RC-Car Transmitter in my left hand, much easier to fly when you are alone and more than enough for my low , fast on/of flying
For F2B i would recommend a "real" timer with G-Force sensors to control Motor RPM.

It did take a bit of time, but now it will have its first flight in the black/Purple model. This is an Practice model for F2G Speed and for testing the components. It will fly around 170 km/h, but on 13,26m Lines i have the same rotation speed like 270 on 17,92m lines, which is a low F2A speed.
Next version of the whole thing is in the make, 5:1 geared outrunner on 6s and 9x21 GM Folding prop should be good for 300+ on 17,92 lines (and this is real F2G then). (300 is a pessimistic view of the abilities of the Model, in F5D they fly speeds up to 350 with these kind of drives. But we have also a lot of line drag)
Next hardware and software Version of the Timer is also on the road, Programming a micro arduino via USBASP did already work.

Look very promising Sebastian, electric has the potential to outperform IC F2B indeed. There is already a special class for electric tether car and boats, and they are fast!
