1/32" Ply bagging help needed

How-do, rednecks?
I'm baggin' a zephyr wing for slopemeno and ain't never used no ply.

At the TE, do I bevel the ply a little, a lot, or none at all?
How much ply should meet behind the foam core? 1/4in? 1/8?
Am I expected to sand both upper n lower surfaces to a thin TE AFTER it comes out of the bag to return it to the airfoil shape?
Cloth TE's aren't as thick and don't give me this issue.

After bagging the ply, I will make a Poplar LE and bag it again with 4oz cloth, veil.
Oh, I'll also include a peel-ply hinge to score down to.

Do I need to use mylar over the ply bagging phase? wouldn't hurt I reckon.

Any advice on this here new endeavor?

Let the top skin hang past the edge of the bottom skin about 1/4" at the TE. The bottom skin should extend a little past the edge of the foam and then the top skin extends a little past that. That way you don't have both skins stopping right at the TE, giving you a 1/16" thick TE. Hope that makes sense. You can then block sand it to a nice thin edge before bagging the glass over it.

One thing though - doing it this way will make your ailerons pretty heavy and heavy ailerons are more prone to flutter. The nice thing is you don't have to do so much shaping, but balsa ailerons will be a lot lighter.

Excellent info Slopeiron.
With the offset ply at the TE, I think the mylar might get in the way, so I shouldn't use the molars for the first bagging, right?

I imagine a strip of blue tape could hold the off set in place (add slits to it to help bleed out excess resin).

I haven't made balsa ailerons yet. I'll need to experiment some before I use it on this core.

Any significant difference between Poplar and Bass? Poplar's easy to get and is considered a "hard wood".

Like Russ said, Ply ailerons are very prone to flutter so make sure you have beefy linkages with as little slop as possible. Bass wood is more flexible than Poplar and less prone to snapping. But Poplar is a good second choice if you can't get Basswood.

I shutter to flutter

I don't want this one to flutter by.

Are you suggesting a glassed wing but a wood aileron? More steps for painting...less redneck! Hmmmm.

More than one way to skin a zephyr!

It's like a 5 hour drive to the zephyr build for me (and I'm not hitch hiking).

Feel free to refer me to a build log that does a ply wing.

Since I can bag glass, what's plywood gonna do better?

The ply will make it a lot tougher. A glass over foam wing will shatter easily. You might consider going with 1/64" ply instead of 1/32". It will be a lot lighter and still plenty strong. Also, you don't need to use mylars when you are bagging the ply skins on. You only need the mylar to give the glass a nice surface.

If you wanted to go with balsa ailerons, you could cut the TE of the cores off and then bag the ply skins onto what is left of the wing. After the skins are on, tack on some balsa aileron stock on and shape it to match your airfoil. Then bag glass over the whole thing afterward. Then cut the ailerons off and hinge them.

My wing fillet is ready.
I could fuss over it forever. So tonight I am going to give a final sand. The clean her up and glue the elevators /ailerons on. The tomorrow Solartex and Monday primer
