As mentioned before in this thread:

When the Twin-Jet got out in 2001, the list price was 219.- DM (or €112.- Euro).
The Sonicliner in 2003 started with a list price of €129.-, which is just 15% more.

The list price of the Twin-Star II was €99.90, i.e. was offered a bit cheaper, most likely due to smaller molds and higher expected sales figures.

Well ,as I recall,...locally (USA) it was ,at the time one of the pricier foamie kits available considering it was a radical departure from conventional set-ups ...I didn't buy my first one til the LHS lowered the price below $100....

We did an all-electric RC pylon race in August 1977. Four aircraft - no idea who won.

I haven't flown IC since.

Conversely, I have no interest in the Sonic Liner, and have subbed just to laugh at the slanging matches....

i would like a sonic liner, as i like experimental planes. but judging by the complete lack of x planes on the market vs every company making another stupid mustang every few months, i am obviously in the minority.
the lack of interest of this thread (compared to other threads) proves that the sonicliner will never fly again.

on a side note, i'd love it if somebody made modern, epo versions of a sr71,x29 or x31.
i'd love pretty much anything experimental flown by DARPA. too bad most people have no idea such planes even exist, therefore the lack of interest in companies to manufacture such planes

LOL... that's just not fair. Also, I'm afraid that we'll have to disappoint you.

So I think the fans need to take this one into their own hands. After looking at ModelAero's awesome Polaris kit I'm starting to wonder how hard it would be to clone one ourselves.

Has anyone ever experimented with making EPO molds?

I'm pondering opening up a Kickstarter on one of these as soon as I know what I'm getting myself into and evaluating how much free time I could possible devote to this.

One tricky thing is that the hardware would have to be cloned as well since buying MPX hardware would destroy any chance at breaking even on these kits.

"The world needs China to make a copy of the MPX Sonic Liner! What do you think?"

After having put together 6 or 7 Multiplex kits (2 x EasyStar1, EasyStar2, FunJet, MiniMag, TwinJet, Sonic Liner) more or less in a row, I have just (last week) assembled the Bixler 1.1 and the RadJet 800, and I can only answer that question with "No, please don't give me a cheap clone"

I enjoy the hobby / assembly aspect of RC very much, but my time is just too valuable to constantly fix problems with a poorly designed and manufactured kit. Even if it's half the price.

Mike_O,
I hear you on not wanting a cheap/poorly made clone... but have you seen the quality of some of the clones lately? They're downright respectable.

I think we all would agree that an official reissue from Multiplex would be the best possible option but they have already stated that this will never, ever happen...

So far I have built:

EasyStar
Funjet x2
Funjet Ultra
Mentor (with floats)
Twinstar II x2
Minimag (with floats)
Funcub
Twinjet (the pride of my MPX fleet!- with a pair of ARC 28mm motors... )
Merlin
Dogfighter
and a Fox glider rc conversion

Building MPX kits is as much fun as flying them. I'd only want a clone of the Sonic if the build captured the essence of the original.
