I was flying my other heli last night in the fog, the E-1003 Comanche. the only mods I've done are I ripped off the stupid missile wings (Its a stealth Comanche, not an Apache!!), and I drilled out the flybar holder to allow more movement, oh and also put control rods on outmost servo holes.
I was banking turns in the fog and almost hit myself.
FUN!!
its gonna suck when the brushes wear out and I have to find a motor, the pcb does NOT have esc connectors like its cousin the f45. too bad. its 18 screws to open it up and get to the motor!!!

My 1st delve into heli's was a similar model that had a marine hanging out the door with a damn great M/C gun.
It was on 27 MHz & when I turned it on, the thing took off & landed about 50 ft away in the grass.

I then did what I should've done before anything else.....& that is, a range check.
Power to both Tx & Rx, antenna not extended & walk away for about 60 ft or so.
When I did this, I didn't get any response from the heli after around 5 ft.
I then re-packed it, notified the dealer & sent it back. Got my $$ refunded.
It also had about 18 screws in the sides & no external access to anything.

A kids toy & very dangerous.

Oh yeah. & good luck finding a main motor for yours.

I've heard it uses the same 370 as the f45.\

I guess I could get the f45 pcb and then get an esc and brushless motor for it.
or I might just put it on the shelf beside my hero 995

I have no complaints about how it flys now, range is beyond losing orientation.

Hey Steve, yeah, you are probably right. Maybe It's just the size of it that I really like. To me it's the perfect size. And I do have an mSR and SR120 as well to fly inside, but the parts on those are SO small, they make it hard for these old eyes to work on. I have one of those magnifying lamps and without that wouldn't be able to work on em at all. Thanks again for the comments guys. It's good to be here and share the hobby

HOLY HECK is that new DD motor big..... I heard/saw pictures but they never did justice!

I need to get new blades.... my shorter blades are not cutting it anymore...(Balr14's prediction came true)ugh more time without flying, but the mod is in and I also need to get a better scale to figure out where I'm at....

But I actually got the bird in the air and am beginning to see some time in the air....If the blizzard doesn't hit Friday...

After about 70 flights, one servo died. Can anyone recommended a good after market replacement. Thanks.

Does anyone know the actual head speed of a stock 9116? Even a ball park range would be appreciated. And how many amps is the stock motor pulling during flight?

apparently the turnigy 1440a is the one to go for.

Current draw is "normally" in the 4 to 7 Amp range, according to Steve's figures.
Head RPM? Don't know just yet, coz my digital tacho hasn't arrived yet.
Hopefully, it shouldn't be tooooo much longer.

I had the exact same reaction when I unpackaged it. I had to shorten the tail boom 3/4" to balance the heli out. I don't know if that is even going to be enough because I'm waiting on my Turnigy servos and don't have any mounted in the heli. Might have to move the battery forward.
