You will see that my priorities today were completely backwards. I began to think about what aircraft markings I wanted to go with. I had originally considered Red Tails markings since I had worked for George Lucas decades ago when he first kicked around that idea for a movie. Now I am leaning more towards Big Beautiful Doll that I saw at the Imperial War Museum back in 2008.

Tonight I'll get those hatches open and see what I find...

The Doll is definitely a classic beauty. Decal sets are available too.

I vaccuumed my parts, they are white again!

Great job on the build log. If only I could buy one somewhere.

I still always learn something that I can apply to another project though.

Keep up the good work Rubio.

This is my break from surf time of year. I enjoy building. It's a lot of fun.
Nice to have you along.

EPP kits are scarce these days. Keep your eyes on the classifieds
This one came from there...

I was amazed how dirty it was. The fuse still has some yellow patches of contact cement on it and it doesn't come off!

Nice work Tom

Is looking forward to seeing her come alive again.
Thanks for joining the fun!!
Today I spent the first part of the morning test fitting the spar into the wing. When it was pushed all the way down there was a now in the wing. I didn't trust that it would come out. So I sanded it with my trusty 80 grit sanding block till I got a nice flat fit on the wing bed.
Then I sanded the top coat of the leg With some some 400/ 600. To get it smooth as glass. It really looks good. Except now it shows all the small defects I blew off thinking it would not show later. Mostly in the trailing edge spar.
Here is a shot of the top coat color.

Then I went back to the DAM build.
Today I need to install the spar.
First I layed down some wax paper. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353545499.073504.jpg

Then I got out the goop.
And the White Gorilla glue
I layed some goop in the bottom an the
Gorilla glue for the sides.
This should form a nice bond.
The instructions don't want you to glue the aft side of spar 6" back to allow for the joiner. I marked that.

The instructions wanted the trailing edge spar mounted to at this time. It was tough getting everything done all at once and set true. But I just went at it.
I taped the trailing edge spar on tight to keep it straight. And kept the mags off I to keep it from moving.
I taped the top of the spar to force the gorilla glue into the wing.
Then weighted the whole thing with my old surf mags( carefully)
The double checked everything.

I took a shower and made sure that the wing was setting flat. Got rid if some foamed up gorilla glue.
I went off to pick up packet for the 5k
Tomorrow. When I returned I checked everything again and it all looked great.
One wing set.
Tomorrow I will attack the next one.
Coming next.
Mark the fuse for shaping
And set the next spar.

Hi Brian

She is coming alive. I am really stoked that you found the build log.
Thanks again for parting with this plane. I'm very happy to own and be building it. Keep an eye in this log. I will post all of it here. Plus a few nuggets of other things that are happening around it.
If you had any ideas for schemes that you were going to use post them here.
I still haven't chosen one for this plane.
Just tryin to keep moving ahead. Time flys by so fast. She needs to be done for the slope safari.
And of course I have ZERO work to do...
