The spar channel is deeper at the root than at the tip.
Look at the spar and you can see the change in size.

You can plane down the spar a little, to get it under the suface of the channel and cap it with epp scraps, or just glue it in and sand it off the top and spackle. I've done both.

Tom
so stoked with your build log

Thanks Tom
The spar is below at the tip.
But at the joint and the root it is almost even. I think i will sand it a little and cap it with a some foam. Or at least that is the current plan.

Next we are going to make a sander or the spinner. Wade gives you a sanding block made from EPP. All that is needed is to finish it off.

While I cooled down from my run. I checked on the primer on my P-51.
The grabbed the sanding block.
Wade marked the back the the size and put it into quadrants. I marked them 1 to 4. The started to sand it to shape after about 10 minutes if light sanding I took it from this .

Hi Rubio,

I picked up a partially built DAM P-51 at a club auction a few weeks ago and just got the manual on Thursday. Looks like I have all the key pieces except the ailerons.

It appears that the fuse was coated with what may be a thin layer of epoxy. The servos are sealed inside and I'll need to cut open a hatch or two to see what is going on electrically.

This was going to be about #3 on my project list, but I may decide to bump it up so we can compare build notes.

Hi Aric
I would like that very much,
if you can post some pics of where it is at in the build. We can have some fun and make a great flyin plane go airborne!!

Lets face it until we give them life with the build they are just some foam and wood.
It's up to us to take that and make Flyin Machines!!!

Here are some photos.... My first project is to open up the two fuselage hatches (sealed by epoxy? coating) and determine the wiring. The exposed connectors are old-style Airtronics and so these will need to be rewired since I run Spectrum RXs. The rudder and elevator servos are sealed and will need push-rods connected.

The tape applied to the wings is probably 10 years old and the adhesive is dried out. Gently pulling the tape removes the pieces. I haven't used this tape method and it clearly has a limited lifetime so I want to consider what options I have here.
