Durable Aircraft Models (Unobtainium) 66" P-51

Good Day Slopers,
For those of you who don't know me. My name is Rubio Smith. I live in San Juan Capistrano on a hill (below my favorite slope). I surf a lot and slope while not surfing. I went to Fake Fest last year. While I was there I met a local sloper Tom. He had a large P-51. It was an amazing model. Rudder,Flaps and very scale . I asked where it came from. He said that were no longer produced.
Cruisin the Slope forum I came across a thread . Its purpose was to show pics of DAM models. They really were great looking and great flying aircraft.
Brian Courtice had started it in 2004 when he purchased this model. Since Brian has moved from his tropical home to Florida. He put this kit up for sale.
I saw that and PM'ed him right away to say I would take it. I was slow and many people had already contacted him . But they wanted information before buying.
I needed none...

I said.... SOLD!!
Brain shipped it out the next day.
I would have received it earlier. But I have a bad habit of not picking up my mail. Unless Hot Rod magazine is in there!! my Mail man got tired and put a hold on my mail and plane to teach me a lesson. I got the mail tues. The next day I had the Plane it was on hold too.
My intention is to take this plane to PSS Fest 2013. Brian will be on his Annual Slope Safari. There He can fly the plane he held for so long.

I will hopefully be able to pre fly it before so I know its ready to be pitched off Cajon. So far I have no Scheme picked out. So feel free to post something you like. Maybe it will be the scheme i pick. I have unpacked the box.
I will post some pics of the contents. The instruction Manual is really nicely done.
Wade (the Designer)of these kits really produced a nice model.

I am stoked to own it.

I am currently painting my LEG P-51. And working on my LEG F-86. Those will move ahead too. Let's have some fun and build An (unobtainum) Kit. Turn it from foam and wooden Sticks into a flying machine.

I will be going with everything . Flaps, Rudder(it was designed for that).
I will install a pilot and some type of cockpit.

Go Rubio! I should do a build along, but I already have too many irons in the fire. I have two P-51s that are completed if you want a visual. (not that you need one) let me know.

Go Rubio Go! Nice score, and, well, the way I see it when I stop learning things I'll be 6 feet under, and I'm not ready for that yet!

Definitely following your action!

Big plane = Big project! Looks like you are up for the task though. I'm always surprised at how much work EPP scale foam planes are, but when done right they are awesome!

Looking at the wing, I'm wondering what kind of spar system these models used, carbon tubes or carbon on spruce?

Thanks for sharing the build with us, you da' man Rubio!!!

DAM kits and most DAW kits used lumber for spars.

Cool, I see the sticks. In one of the pics! I flew a Dave's P 51 way back when. Really enjoyed that thing with a rudder on it for goofing around. I think that was my first foam model!

I still have one flying. Dave gave it to me the last time I went over to visit. Still a good flyer!

I'm starting with this photo if the manual. It is really written well.
This build has just begun but I'm kinda sad to think this is the last one if these models I will build.
It's well thought out.
(If there any more out there) contact Rubio and he will give it
a good home.
